Too many brown hats?....

I saw this referenced elsewhere here and it got me to wondering...
What ratio "colorwise" is your hat collection? How many "browns, greys, blacks, etc" do you have? Any particular reason for your choices? (other than pure personal preference)

I happen to favor brown.....so I have more of those than anything else. Next in line is grey, then black. Roughly a 4 to 2 to 1 ratio accordingly.

Two browns, three gray, one sage green(a 30's royal stetson),two blacks. I'm planning on adding maybe 1 of each color, maybe a vintage open road, most custom made!

Two brown Adventurebilts; one formerly brown, but now green and splotchy Federation; one brown vintage Borsalino -That's a lot of brown!- A gray Adventurebilt (My current favorite), a "White" Montecristi and a brown straw from Puerto Rico. Lots and lots of brown.

I was the one who started the earlier thread on too many brown hats.

I still have too many brown hats, but no longer collect them because my Akubra Federation that I got off ebay looks enough like an Indy so I was able to stop buying brown hats. I still have too many, some are in storage in SD, but my favorites -- the dark brown akubra and two vintage lighter brown Borsalinos are out here with me.

I now have too many gray hats -- trying to find a lighter gray with a decent brim, and most gray hats I have are a medium to medium-dark gray with 2 inches or less on the brims. I have, now, about four gray brims and one pretty silver gray (Beaver brand) that would be my favorite in a heartbeat but the brim is only 2 inches.

Also have one navy blue fedora, one ivory creme fedora, one old bashable golden tan Knox fedora, a wonderful moss green Selentino that I got off ebay (one of the few ebay purchases that has worked out for me), a silverbelly Dobbs styled in an LBJ "Open Road," which I quickly had converted to a standard fedora, and a black Bogart fedora that I got from Village Hat Shop in San Diego.

Today I received a Mr. Stetson fedora in a pretty rose-colored red, which is soft and bashable and I would love it to death but, again, it has a 2 inch brim. In this color, it should be called "Ms. Stetson," I can't imagine most guys purchasing a hat this color. I will keep it, because I think I can wear it around Des Moines without people gaping at me.

I also have on order a silverbelly Akubra Campdraft, won't be ready until February. Again, I was trying to order light gray, but everyone in the world seems to have stopped making them.

Interesting. Most of the vintage hats i see in the stores are NOT brown. I've only ever come across one vintage brown hat - i bought it the other day.

I have, therefore, one brown, two grey, one black, one somewhere between grey and brown homburg (depending upon the lighting), one sage green (soon to become two sage green when i get out to one of the stores around here), one donegal tweed newsboy, one brown herringbone vintage newsboy, and a black beret.

I really need a vintage black fedora ...

Still to early!

I only just got sucked into this fedora collecting frenzy, so I only have a few hats.

Dad's Borsalino is Grey
My Stetson Soureign is Grey
My Dobbs Rouge is a gold tone straw.

I'd like to add to the fur felt collection the following colors:
brown
black
tan
navy
ivory / cream
taupe
mink
green.
I'd also like a Straw Boater, a Panama, a good newsboy cap, a WWI British Officers Trench cap and mabe a Greek fisherman's cap.

But there is no rush.

Happy hat wearing!

Seems like you need a gray and a brown. Beyond that is sort of preference and coordination with whatever clothes you wear. You may not ever need a black or tan.

I own a brown akubra and a grey stetson. Out of curiosity, what colors do blue or green hats match with? I'd probably buy on if I knew. And if I had the cash. January is a slow time at the golf course.

I've got a dark olive that looks like dark gray at first glance and would probably go with most of the same colors that gray would.

Something brighter green, I dunno.

4 brown - an Adventurebilt, a Lee Kepler and a Miller, all Indy shaped, and an old Chase that Fedora is making into a Bogey style; one black created by Art Fawcett after an old Borsalino that he owns; 2 vintage Cuencas (kind of ivory) and two Montecristis, which I guess are light ivory. Time to get a gray and a silverbelly!

My collection:

Black (homburg) - 1

Green - 1

Brown - 1

Gray - 1

Tan - 1

Panama (straw) - 1

A friend owes me something in trade for the brown one I gave him not long ago. I'm thinking blue. I really only need one of each color.

I have 2 black, 1 gray and 1 brown.

When I look at a hat I make sure I like the style and sizing first, the color comes secondary. I can always put together outfit to a hat color, but if the style turns out wrong...

Sincerely,
Rob

Well, since I only have one hat and it is brown you could say its a bit lop-sided. :p

I only wish that with my meager student budget I could find a decent vintage Grey Fed in a size 7 1/2(since most of them skyrocket in price on ebay).

Hummmmm, from memory...

Light gray - 5
Medium gray - 3
Dark gray - 4
Medium brown - 4
Dark brown - 3
Black - 4
Rust - 1
Tan - 2
Taupe - 2
Olive - 4
Green - 1
Light blue - 2
Silverbelly - 4
Blonde - 1

And might have left a couple out. Dark blue is the hole I'd like to fill.
