Too bootylicious for the Sweater Dress???

Just wondering what you ladies think about the 30-50's sweater dresses/skirts. I absolutely love them, and I own one from the 50's which is a sweater with a matching sweater skirt. Too cute. Only trouble is I usually only wear the sweater and not the skirt because I have about 40 inch hips and I have a generous bottom half...lol Very J-Lo.

It looks fine when I wear wiggle dresses and the like, because the material is heavier and drapes well...but it is the sweater material that really...ahem..."accents" the behind quite prominently!!! Even with my girdle! The girdle smooths everything out so there is no bumps or lumps to report...just that my behind looks OUT there! lol

So I was wondering if you gals had ever shyed away from sweater dresses/skirts because you felt self-conscious as well?? Do you think that a flatter bottom is more "flattering?"

I think I could feel okay in a vintage sweater dress, because they are a decent length. I had a more modern one and it looked really cute. But I am heavy in the lower half and it always seemed too short to manage my backside. But they do feel quite different on compared with other clothing constructs.

It takes a lot of confidence and the right undergarment. But yes, I wear sweater dresses, even though there's no avoiding the way my rear sticks out. There are men (and women) who love a backside you can balance a drink on.

I have sweater dresses that i wear, but they're not too tight and they're a very heavy knit. I LOVE the sweater/skirt sets but I do find that they're just unflattering on me and are usually so skin tight that it's just not a look I like.

Even moreso, I avoid them because even when it's extremely cold in the winter, you can't wear them inside without sweating your *ss off. Everyone just turns the heat up too high! They might be nice for being out and about and walking through that winter wonderland, but once you get inside you'll positively melt.

I have a sweater set skirt and top. I also only were to top and I really don't normally feel like I have a big backside and am more apple than pear. I saw a woman giving advice on how to look slimmer and she did mention that anything that looks thick off the body will automatically make you look heavier such as corduroy vs cotton slacks.

I have more in back than I'd like but I wore my 50's sweater dress all the time. This is probably not the best picture to show what it look like on a bottom heavy figure.

I like anything that makes me booty pop out like that, hahaha. High waisted 30s-40s trousers are great for this.

You can pass over what you don't want to me! I'll gladly take it. :D

Lovely sweater dress btw!

Agreed you look very cute. I don't personally wear them, but i think if you have the right underwear on, no lumps and bumps from the girdle or panties, then i love seeing shapely curves and personally i love seeing woman with a nice curvy backside and generous hips, i love the fuller figure, well i love admiring women of all shapes and sizes per se.:)

It's not something I even remotely worry about, I like having a bum and if other people have a problem with me wearing something which is tight and shows it off then they need some help tbh.

Body confidence anyone? :D

I have a vintage sweater dress. I've only worn it once...I do feel more self conscious in it as it's body hugging. May try it again with proper foundation garments!

I'd love to get a sweater dress, however, the only one I've found on Etsy so far that was my size and within my price range, didn't ship to Canada. :eusa_doh:
And I have no idea, if I have a big or small booty. lol

BD you've inspired me to go and search for sweater dresses to buy! Having read over this thread, I'm a bit worried about how any of them would fit, but I reckon if it flares out enough at the hem then it should look ok. Now where's best to look? Etsy?

I don't have the booty problem, more like a lack thereof. I've just gotten a sweater tunic like this

and I just love wearing it, with leggings. Minus the belt. I think the trick is to
choose a non bulky sweater dress, if you are going to wear one, and be very sure that your undergarments are smooth.

I'm also considering getting this one

I love sweater dresses but I too have 40 inch hips and well the Norwegian Cuban mix doesn't exactly give a girl a small back side. Normally I love it but I feel super self contious in sweater dresses also, even with the right undergarments on.
