Hi Bowlerman

I really like your hat.

Would you mind giving me some more info on your hat, namely brim width, crown height and type of crease. A photo showing the crease would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Ted, I"m getting a 6 inch open crown. As creased, about 4 1/2" in the back, 4 7/8" in the front. The hat looks much bigger on me without my beard.

That is awesome! It makes me want to convert my old akubra snowy river in fawn to something like that... I can reblock it and find and make the ribbon ok, I'm just not so sure I can bind the brim...

I need to roadblock it anyway but if I can manage 5 1/2" then I'll try it with a copper ribbon and leave the brim raw. I already trimmed it to 3" since it was way too wide for my size 7 head. :D

I'm resurrecting this thread. After seeing Bowlerman's hat in this thread, I am in touch with Parker at Falcon Park to make me one, too.
On another note, the movie was shot in Georgia in and around my area: Coweta, Carroll, and Meriwether counties. The movie crews occupied an old church/school facility near my home while filming.

That photo is a great demonstration of the effect of the flash. Well done!
Not only "flash" but light in general affects color by more than most realize! I service color copiers and printers for a living. I was working on a machine once and the customer complaint was "the greens look brown". I tweaked the machine as best I could and got a slight improvement. As I was bringing the before and after samples from the copy room to her office the samples dramaticley changed from brown to green!

Absolutely. Anyone who has seen the original Star Trek series from the 60s might be surprised to discover the "gold" Command tunics (such as the one worn by William Shatner) were actually closer to lime green in color. The reason for this is that the actual green color photographed as yellow/gold under the bright studio lights, and that was how the production staff (i.e., Gene Roddenberry, et al) wanted them to appear on screen.

Thanks for everyones' help especially Bowlerman. My hat arrived yesterday from Mike at Northwest Hats. First I need to state that Mike and I discussed the specs of the movie hat and I changed many of them so that the hat would suit me more. I also wanted the hat to like like the scenes when it was overexposed and probably lighter than in reality, but I liked that look. So any differences from the movie hat are entirely intentional.

Anyway enough chat, here are the pics!

Very nice hat Tedquinton. Just wondering, how wide did you go with the ribbon on that one...also, what's the exposure on each tab of the bow and how long is it. It looks really nice. I like that.

Hi TJ

Glad you like it.

The brim is 2 5/8", narrower than the film hat, the gap between the pleats is approx 6/8"
