Today's Classic Films

Maybe this has been touched on before and maybe this isn't the right places for this discussion, but what does everyone think today's classic movies will be? When classic films are brought up, they usually talk about Gone With the Wind, Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Wizard of Oz, etc... So, I would like to see what peoples' opinions are on the films that will be well remembered that have been made since 1990. I don't mean for this to be a list of favorite movies that will be personally remembered and I don't intend for any kind of raging debate. I would just like to see some brainstorming that might lead to a good list of films.

P.S. If this has already been done, just let me know and I'll pull this thread. Thanks.

Jurassic Park comes to mind first, as does the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I'm sure science fiction fans will want to include the Matrix films, although IMHO the first one was the only good one. Some loonie would probably want to include the new Star Wars films on the list too.

I would second The Shawshank Redemption and the Lord of the Rings Triology, and submit Life Is Beautiful, Braveheart and Dances With Wolves for consideration..

M. Night Shyamalan's early work might go down as classics in some circles. He could quite possibly be the new Hitchcock if he applied himself to the task.

I'm thinking 'Kingdom of Heaven". That one was rather enjoyable. For me the soon to be trilogy of Pirates of the Caribbean. You gotta love Geoffry Rush in that role. Another for me was Last of the Mohicans was very memorable. And of course I can't forget Tombstone.

"Saving Private Ryan" For all its flaws, it is still a very good movie and set a new standard for war films.
"Zoolander" the more I see it, the better it gets.

Dances With Wolves (1990) Its John Barry music score alone makes this a classic for the ages.

I like Steve Martin in L.A. Story, and Kevin Spacey in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

"A Room With A View"

Hey, this is a romance, but it's also very witty and intelligent. The acting across the board is superb, and the camera work is lush and vibrant. I usually can't stand romantic flicks, even romantic comedy, but this one won me over.

I read the Forster novel with it's romantic prose and a nostalgic ode to a bygone era. I thought that nobody could ever match the vivid imagery of Forster's text. I was mistaken. Merchant-Ivory truly understands Forster's quiet power: they subtly transmute a delightful novel into a visual feast that is as much a love letter to Italy and young love as it is the classic story of "boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl".

It sparked my trip last summer to Tuscany and kindled what I hope is a lifelong love of Italy!!!

Saving Private Ryan is a good choice I have always liked the relationship between the Captain and his platoon sergeant. Always seems to have a ring of truth particularly the conversations in the church.

Last of the mohicans, great story, beautiful cinematography, excellent acting and an epic score.

Gallipolli. Classic war story.

The Usual Suspects. The whole plot is one of the best I have ever scene and I love the scene when Chazz Palmenteri looks at the bulletin board.

"Glengarry Glen Ross" I guess Baldwin isnt as good of an actor in that movie as I thought he was. Judging from the voicemail he left, it looks like he was playing himself in the movie.

I'd toss Donnie Darko, Blade Runner, and True Romance into the ring.
