On the Today Show (United States, NBC) this morning, there was a segment on modern fashions with roots in the 1940's. The link takes you there.

I'm not sure they got it right, but it's good they are discussing it. Your thoughts?

Someone from NBC should really visit our "Ladies of the Lounge" thread for the best examples.

The lady in red looks nice, but no where near as up kept as the 40s inspiration pic. More 70s than 40s.
Its a lot of work to look the part sometimes lol.

I'm certainly no expert on fashion, vintage or modern, but after looking at the pics of "then" and "now"...the "now" ones are rather embarassing. Lady Day is right - they don't look nearly as polished as the "then" photos!

In the article, they focus only on one element of each outfit - a ruffle/high-waist/long hem, and finding a modern garment that incorporates that. How vintage influences modern fashion. Overall, the silhouettes are a far cry from anything 30s/40s - yeah, mostly 70s looking. They just matched up the colors of each pair, and that's all most people notice.
