On this day in 1963, President John F. Kennedy granted Winston Churchill the first ever honorary US citizenship.

Churchill could easily have been born American. Jeanette ('Jennie') Churchill (née Jerome), Lady Randolph Churchill. American born heiress and society figure was the mother of Sir Winston Churchill. She was one of the first so-called 'buccaneers' to cross the ocean, setting the trend of marrying into British aristocracy.

You are correct, the lethal combination of German blitzkrieg tactics, French and British inactivity, and Soviet perfidy doomed Poland to a swift defeat after Adolf Hitler invaded the country on this day in 1939.

On this day in 1666 the Great Fire of London, (actually it started in the night on the 2nd,) it began accidentally in the house of the king's baker; burning for four days and destroyed a large part of the city, including Old Saint Paul's cathedral and about 13,000 houses.

This day in 1939 has been the date the later euphemistically named „euthanasia“ decree has been backdated to by Hitler in October 1939. After rolling out the respective plan over Germany this has later been known/named as „action T4“ after the address of the „campaign’s“ headquarter and created basic methods and educated/experienced staff for the later extinction camps in Poland as a side effect.
This is also the only known document Hitler directly ordered the murder of a specific group of population with.
