To wax or not to wax ????

I waxed my husband's back last year. I can't tell you how much satisfaction I got out of that.

For the ladies that wax your brows.. have you ever tried Threading? I prefer it to waxing because it's easier on the skin around my eyebrows than the wax. I usually only get it done every couple of weeks because I can maintain on a daily basis with tweezers but sometimes I am just too tired to do it and I let myself go which sends me back to the salon for another threading.

I found a website that explained how to do the process yourself but I'm a little hesitant to try. I can't remember what the website is now but I get the idea because I've been getting my eyebrows done at the salon for years. Execution is a different story.

On the waxing part.. my friend is a wax specialist and keeps trying to convert me to waxing EVERYTHING... um... kind of too much for me.

Yup, that was me I think I put it in the eyebrow thread. A makeup artist did it for me free of charge one time and I found it much less painful than waxing, and it left less redness. As far as I know, threading removes a whole row of hairs at a time, so it's much quicker than plucking.

I used to thread my facial hair and it's a pretty interesting way to do hair removal. It started in India and has grown in popularity over the past ten years.

Basically, they use thread twisted in a certain way and roll it over your face catching misc. hairs in the twists of thread. It gets out a lot of the smaller hairs on your face as well as stubborn chin hairs.

And the best part is you get none of that redness you get from waxing! It's particularly nice if you are going out that evening. And fewer break-outs to boot!

However, they don't recommend it for larger areas of skin.

I tried threading ONCE. Maybe it was the lady I went to but it hurt so much worse than waxing ever did and the hair grew back ridiculously fast. I go to the spa for facial waxes religiously every two weeks. I have PCOS which causes dark facial hair that just makes me feel like everyone is staring at me If I don't remove it ALL. My husband claims its barely noticable but I'm self-concious and he has to say stuff like that, he's my husband . I've also had every shape eyebrow over the years and waxing didn't make a bit of difference in the way it grew back. I have very thick eyebrows naturally and I prefer the much thinner style and if I go too long without waxing them they grow right back. Like I said maybe it was the lady I went to but I'll take waxing over threading ANY day. I tried the Nads once and found it messy and frustrating. The sugaring thing though, I've heard a lot about but havn't tried....some things are just worth paying other people to do....

Thanks Elaina! This site has great info. I had never heard of threading before. I don't have any facial hair, yet, and my eyebrows grow slowly, but this might be good for removing some of the finer hairs.

I have blonde peach fuzz on my face. It's not coarse, it's not noticeable at all until I wear foundation or any kind of powder. I only wear make-up when I'm going out or dressing up, so this isn't a huge issue for me, but I wondered how you girls deal with fine/pale hair on your faces?

You're lucky it's light...some of my peach fuzz is pretty dark. But it whisks right off with the mini-trim attachment on my Remington Trim & Shape Beauty Kit.

I get my face threaded at a salon called Heena in Richardson, waxing can tend to scar, especially if you have darker skin.

I shave my legs maybe once a week in the summer. I know I am very lucky my sister tells me that all the time.

My understanding is that threading doesn't get all hairs out by the root, but rather can break them off at the skin. For me, this misses the whole point because I have light skin and dark hair...

I think everyone has fine peach fuzz! What happens, at least for me, when you powder your face is that some of the powder settles in the hair and then makes it visible. You can eliminate this by setting your makeup with a spray. I think Jitterbugdoll said she uses rose water to set her makeup (whatever you use, a light, fine mist is all it takes). I use Focus 21 Sea Plasma and lightly spray it on a cotton round and gently pat it over my face after i'm all done. You can use pretty much any moisture spray that's on the market to accomplish this task.

Good lord!! I'm Hispanic with serious dark hair and lots of hair. I always tease hubby that it would be easier for me to be dipped in wax once a month and then start pulling.

I'm all about the wax. I've been doing it for years that it doesn't hurt me at all. Eyes and upper lip are easy. Recently I started doing bikini and its no problem too. I end up shaving underarms, legs, and arms since I have to do them more often. I tried to wax them, and it works, but takes for ever and gets to be expensive. I can't do it at home cuz I always miss a strip or two. And thats embarassing.

I have reached a young but significant age where my face fuzz is becoming more noticable. And I've developed a little patch on my chin that needs daily touch up (I don't know where the little suckers come from but overnight there one goes). I have considered the threading cuz they do the whole face for cheap.

Ok, I have to admit that I'm surprised that there are people who don't remove their body hair.

I could practically be known as the hairless wonder. lol I despise body hair! I've been shaving every single day since I was a teenager, and I get my brows waxed at least once a month, in between I maintain with tweezing. I can't go a day without shaving or I get grossed out by stubble!

I wax my arms in the summer with that water-soluble stuff. I love it! And my hair grows back noticeably thinner and lighter on my arms.

I love to have my eyebrows waxed, but I always end up with REALLY inflamed skin that gradually subsides to little "brow bumps". My skin is so sensitive, and I always warn the person waxing them that it's gonna look worse than it is. Nevertheless, they always get shocked expressions after the first rip, and look unsure if they should go on. One day I'm gonna lean back in their chair and say, "Hey, waxin' ain't for sissies, doll."

I finally found a shop that doesn't heat their wax to roughly the temperature of molten lava and that's made a big difference, and I've also discovered that witch hazel really works to clear up the residual bumps and redness, so that's great.

I've never waxed my legs, but I shave them once a week. I try to always use a scrub beforehand to exfoliate and get a very close shave. Lately I've been using St. Ives Apricot Scrub, and I really like it. Stealing hubby's razor is beneficial, too, as I learned last weekend.

I'm seriously contemplating waxing my bikini area this summer. I always get serious irritation, i.e., razor burn and ingrown hairs, when I shave, um, down there, so I'm wondering if waxing would be better or worse for me.
