Time for another "what book are you reading?" thread...

I am reading Rebel Raiders, The Secret Navy of the Cofederacy. It is a very good book dealing with how the Confederacy was able to have ships built secretly in England and the history of one of the ships, the CSS Alabama.

2nd book is The Rebel: Johnny Yuma. It is written by the writer and producer of the show of the same name. It was a tv show back in the late
50's or early 60's. I remember seeing it in reruns when I was little.

Always reading my Bible.

I'm working on an omnibus of PG Wodehouse "Jeeves" books, after watching a substantial amount of "Jeeves and Wooster," I've just finished The Inimitable Jeeves--the first novel contained in the omnibus.

I'm not the only one who reads these!!! I love "Young Men in Spats." They're an entire row on my bookshelf.

Currently reading "A Separate Peace" ...the first time around I only used the CliffsNotes. Also reading "An Incomplete Education" which is like CliffsNotes for all of high school and college put together. Geez, I'm learning a lot.

Ha, I have that one as well, skinnychik! Very useful.

I am reading "For 2 Cents Plain", a collection of newspaper columns from Harry Golden, a liberal Jewish Southern commentator of the 1950s.
(Liberal, Jewish, Southern... not words you hear together in the same sentence very often...)

Just finished "A Pocketful Of Dreams," Gary Giddings' excellent early-years biography of Bing Crosby. I had meant to read it when it came out a couple years back, but never managed to get around to it until I scored a copy for $4.99 in the remainder stacks at Barnes & Noble...

Trying to decide what I want to read next -- these mentions of Wodehouse have me thinking it might just be time to revisit "The Code of the Woosters!"

I've got a couple on the go. Canal Dreams by Iain Banks (loved his Crow Road), Gulag - A History by Anne Applebaum, and I have Elegance by Genevive Dariaux, and a 1947 personal grooming and fashion book on the bedside table that I'm always dropping into.

And because I've got exams this week - Employment Law, and Employment Law Statutes - and I am soooooo bored!

I just finished the incredible and eye-opening <i>Flyboys: A True Story of Courage</i>
<img src="http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000ESSSGG.01._AA240_SCLZZZZZZZ_V55768514_.jpg">
A very interesting look at the Pacific front of WWII and not for the faint of heart.

I also wish to plug Paul Fussell - read anything and everything by him if you haven't already. You can start with <i>Wartime : Understanding and Behavior in the Second World War</i> or his book on WWI, <i>The Great War and Modern Memory</i> if you are so inclined.

While we're at it, one of my all-time (fiction) favorites is Cryptonomicon, which parallels two generations of cryptographers. The first generation decrypts during WWII, the second generation encrypts data. LOVE IT

I love Cryptonomicon to bits, and think it's definitely Stephenson's best book (followed by Snow Crash, which I've just finished reading for the ???th time).

I'm currently reading The Lies of Locke Lamora, which is a fine little tale that so far seems to be about inventing the con-artist in a fantasy version of Venice during the Renaissance. Worth picking up when it comes out, I think.

I hated 'The English Patient' (the movie) as well, which is why I never wanted to read the book, what was weird to me is that, almost all my friends absolutely loved the movie, said how romantic is was  To me, it was a waste of a good 2 hrs. :rage:
Still reading my Chandler book, but next on my list is a new book I got, 'Bad Boy Brawly Brown' by Walter Mosley

I thought The English Patient book & film were o.k. for what they were meant to be.
It certainly is not high art but schlocky, romance type fluff. The film had good cinematography & score, the cast had chemisty.

I would call it a better romance flick than say Gigli yet not quite the sweeping epic of Lawrence of Arabia! ;) [huh]

I haven't seen the movie Gigli, with reading the previews to it, I knew it had to be horrible...pretty much everyone was saying how awful it was, or just plain saying, "Don't watch it!" :D ...there was even a short article on that movie on how many times the F word was used, it was quite a bit
