Three Best Movie Vehicles

I was watching TV tonight and there it was again, the BP propaganda commercial. In it, is a scene over a beautiful ocean, no oil on it, and flying over are two DC3s. Of all the planes BP has, which obviously includes turbo props, since that is what the footage was filmed from, to I am sure Gulfstream jets, to full size airline type jets, they used the DC3! It occurred to me that there are three vehicles you can never go wrong with in filming a modern seen, the Douglas DC3 or C-47, a first generation Mustang convertible, preferably red, and a Triumph twin motorcycle, preferably a Bonneville!

I'm not sure I follow. You seem to like DC3's, but apparently disapprove of someone for employing them in a commercial. Since you label the commercial propaganda, it appears that the purpose of your post is to obliquely attack BP, but you have chosen a rather incoherent or at least unclear method of doing so.

Hmmmm. I'd have to say the "Landmaster" from Damnation Alley would have to be in my "Top 3."

Have to think about the other two.

Wow... that vehicle is a beast! Thanks for providing the wikipedia link, David... I never knew that vehicle was in multiple movies, let alone one. Interesting that the picture you posted was from whatever point in time it was on the showcar circuit. I started on the showcar circuit from 2007 onwards and never had the pleasure of seeing that vehicle in person. :)

Yep. Damnation Alley came out in 1977. It's almost painful to watch now. But, the Landmaster, was cool! The really cool part was that they actually built the thing for the movie.

I saw a picture of it piled into a body shop on Cahuenga Blvd. I don't know if I can find that one again. I also saw a picture of the Galileo 7 Shuttlecraft, from Star Trek TOS, looking rather out of place in a junk yard, somewhere.

Wow... I always thought that the Star Trek ships and shuttles were all miniature models as opposed to being large... crazy that you saw it at a junk yard of all places. :)

Where is Cahuenga Blvd? I assume Hollywood or elsewhere in Cali?

I think the photo that you are referring to showed the Landmaster outside of the Dean Jeffries custom car shop. Dean built many cars and vehicles for Hollywood, including my favorite: The black Beauty from the 1966 TV series The Green Hornet!

I believe Stearmen was merely stating how the DC-3 is a timeless workhorse. "three vehicles you can never go wrong with in filming a modern scene.....a DC-3 or C-47." And he is correct.
Regards, coffee
Thanks for the help! Yes that is what I meant. Of all the airplanes in the BP fleet, I am sure it was no coincidence that they chose the two DC3s! It is the least threatening aircraft, and is sure to bring on warm and fuzzy feelings even to non aviation buffs.

I think you are correct. Dean Jeffries Custom Car lot.

It looks like Dean Jeffries, has restored it around 2000, for the TV series "Get a Life" and it is now under a roof to protect it from the elements.
