Thoughts on this jacket, please?

If am thinking of picking up with coat but wanted more expert opinions on it.

To my eye, it resembles (in pattern and not construction) to a coat Cary Grant is pictured wearing from the 1930's, in the new Cary Grant Style book. Its 100% cashmere.

Please let me hear what you guys think. Thanks!

Buy it cheap and have it retailored into a vest!

I agree with you that all 1970s is not bad bad. However this thing merely says over weight loud mouth American tourist 'doing' Europe in seven days. Not a good image at all.

I've never actually seen any of the over weight, loud-mouth American tourists wearing sports jackets over here. At all, at all.

It's all stone-washed denim and enormous white running shoes.

Yes, we do have some awfully large white running shoes ....probably anyone who wears those in Europe would stick out like a sore thumb and is instantly labeled "tourist".:eusa_doh:

We see them sometimes, on a Sunday, very confused as to why all the shops in the centre of Town are closed...

"Uh... they get the day off on Sunday..?"

When I was a kid, back in the 60's. Everything but church was closed down on Sunday, even the gas stations. I wouldn't mind going back to that again.
Most americans you see over there are dressing up when they're wearing stonewashed denim and overly large running shoes. Here at home they normally wear sweat pants and sweat shirts and flip flops. with the occasional idiot that wears baggy cargo shorts and flip flops even in the winter.....:eusa_doh:

USA Dress Sense

Whatever their dress sense is/may be they are invariably very polite people who are delightful to meet in the street Down Under. The weight issue is something we have canvassed hereabouts - hence the lack of size 46 vintage suits in the Golden Era. But is a fact of modern sedentary life and the obesity has driven the need to dress casually more and more and the awful fact that the lowest common denominator rules in the 21 c. to boot...mis dos centavos:eusa_doh: :eusa_doh:
