I’ve been seeing more of these pop up, I don't know how I feel about this, I’m a wool purist myself.

What do you guys think, sacrilege or no?

I mean, yeah, I think wool is better for sweaters. I used to have cotton sweaters when I was a kid, and then I grew up and discovered I could wear wool sweaters comfortably, and they were better in every way.

But then, there are people who have allergies, and people who just find cotton more comfortable against the skin. So if someone wants to buy it, and someone wants to make it, what business is it of mine to have any opinion.

Horses for courses, really. Wool can be warmer, but having had more than a few much-loved wool knits destroyed by moths over the years, I have an instinctive preference for cotton for that reason. Cotton knits also tend to be cheaper, which is a big plus for me these days.

I wear cheaper cotton sweaters at home because I know they will get dirty and will have to be washed often. I can just chug them into the wash. Plus my cat will make sure destroy any sweater I’m wearing with its claws, so no need to waste the good wool sweaters for lounging around at home.

I ask because, for me, or at least how I use a Fisherman sweater, it is something I wear for boating, fishing, or other water-adjacent activities. Fisherman and Mariner sweaters are really useful if they are cotton because they do not warm when wet. If we are just talking about regular sweaters, then yeah, I don’t think it matters, though I still prefer Merino and Cashmere, just for the softness and antibacterial properties.
