It looks like the vest is cut to a vintage high-rise pattern but the pants have a modern rise, there's a good half inch of shirt showing.

Those are things that can't be mixed and matched in the name of "style".

Hopefully it's just a poor fit on the model problem.

Wait, is that a red patch on the left shoulder? Are we trying to look like we're wearing dad's old military overcoat?

[rant mode] If it is a unit-specific uniform item (unit badge, pin, insignia... not just a ball cap or something) for a unit you weren't in, don't wear it. Unless you are reenacting a character who in theory earned it or related closely to someone who did.

Not just because it "looks cool". [/rant mode]

i saw a Thom Browne cardigan in london and would gladly own it if it wasn't £1500.

Yes, combine questionable design with outrageous price and laugh all the way to the bank. Quite the business model;)

He's supposed to be doing a new line at Brooks Brothers.

His stuff is very short... in fact that's his trademark.

Why?

I had a suit that was similar from about 2 to about 6 years of age, then the shorts were replaced with long pants.

Decent overcoat though.

Word is from some who've actually seen the in-store 'Black Fleece' (ie, Thom Browne) collection at Brooks that it really has some nice pieces in it. Of course, many of them cost more than my car is worth, but still very nice.

Not for everybody, but I think he really sells this look.
Maybe its the model, but it seems far less effeminate than his other shorts look. Might work for golf...or with riding boots too.

Or a tricorn hat. lol

You can make fun of the shorts as much as you please, but much of this line is both modern & retro w/o out the fleamarket feel.
It'll probably bring quite a new demographic to BrooksBrothers.

It all strikes me as a severe fetish version of these guys...which isnt bad at all.

A quote from the man himself.
“I feel like jeans and a T-shirt have become Establishment,” he says. “Everyone’s dressed down. So actually putting on a jacket is the anti-*Establishment stance.”

You walk into a premium quality shop like...like the Apple computer store and the uniform is a T-shirt. So youre buying a $2000 computer or $600 iphone from a very bright young person in flip-flops, shorts & a Tshirt. Its funny, they kinda look like they should be selling ice cream at the beach.
Then think about what this uniform wouldve been like in the `60s.
we've come a long way , baby
