Why does this site always almost fall over at around 1pm GMT? That is pretty early in the morning on PST, but the site ALWAYS stutters... 9am in NYC. Is that it?

Is the server in someone's bedroom, and they vacuum the carpet? Or what?

The database became pretty ****ed up today.

I run two international sites, and I NEVER see this hosting problem.......:eeek:

I visit a hifi site which does the same thing at 9am or thereabouts. Maintenance in California in that case so something similar here I should imagine.

I use 1&1, whose servers, so I understand, are in Germany. Never have any problems

Although our system is equipped with high-capacity buffer tanks, occasionally an obstruction will occur in the outlet lines, causing the tanks to overflow. When this happens, a technician needs to locate the obstructed line and use an electric pipe snake to clear the blockage. This process does take time, but we're sure all the members appreciate our efforts to maintain the tradition of fine artisanal Internet service.

I occasionally find this in the early evening in London. I just assume it's the site trying to play dead cause it don't want me.... Guy drumming his fingers at the next table says I'm paranoid. Well.... he didn't actually say it. He did it in morse code.

We probably need to upgrade to a new server. With all the new members and hits we're getting from Reddit and other social aggregation sites, the Lounge is straining the capacity of our existing server.

That said, I'll ask for some input here. Would any of you be interested in a paid membership? Pay a few bucks a month, and you would get something in return, like a bigger PM box, the ability to have a photo gallery with attachments, and maybe the ability to turn off the Google ads? We'd be able to take the proceeds and get on a dedicated server.

There are motorcycle forums that are free with far more traffic than this site.
I'd be for charging for sales thru the Classifieds to sellers before general membership fees.

Any sustaining membership would be optional. We wouldn't dare dream of forcing a fee on all membership.
