U-Bet Chocolate Syrup or Hershey's.

For some reason, the store that carries U-Bet near me ran out and I recently tried Hershey's out of necessity. I won't prejudice the response, but am very curious to hear what others think of this "this or that."

You've ignored the previous "this or that".
But perhaps you aren't familiar with the watches.
But then...I'm not familiar with
U-Bet.

So far it's Hershey's for me.

My faux pas, I missed that we had an open one.

As to those watches, is the only difference the name on the face? If so, I'd prefer option three - no name as that would look "cleanest" to me, but if I must choose, I'll take the one that just says "Detroit."

Lasky. I like "The Squaw Man" and I'll fight anybody who doesn't think Dustin Farnum was a great cowboy.

Ham and Bud or "A Ton Of Fun?"

A Ton of Fun

The sound disc for "The Central Station Industry Exhibit" at the Century of Progress Exposition, or the disc for "Electricity in the School Room"?

One is Blue Wax, the other is Victrolac.

Sorry. The above "This or That" was entirely too obscure.

Which candies would you prefer to make (or to eat!): Caramel or Butterscotch?

Caramels, preferably a mix of vanilla and chocolate flavor.

And I can't stand Victrolac, with that greasy film that forms on it. Royal Blue wax is gorgeous to look at and sounds even better to play.

(Apropos of nothing, I once had the sound disc for the Bristol-Myers exhibit at the Century of Progress pass thru my hands. It provided the voice for a giant paper-mache Fred Allen head that shouted wisecracks to attract the attention of passers-by, and somehow ended up in the collection of a certain Mr. Vallee, who was a devoted Allen fan. I transferred the disc and still have a copy somewhere -- probably the most bizarre and unusual thing I've run across.)

Vertical or lateral pickup?

Vertical or lateral pickup?

YES!

It is so difficult to decide between the two! I love so many of the vertically recorded Edison cylinders, the Diamond Discs, and all of that wonderful stuff on Pathe, but then I could not live without Orthophonic Victor, Viva-Tonal Columbia and those wonderful jazz sides on Vocalion and Bruunswick...

For transcription discs I'd choose vertical. Those Orthocoustic transcriptions are wonderful. For commercial records I'd have to choose lateral.

...Squirrel Nut Zippers or Mary Janes?

Holy Cats! A Vitanola one that I know.

To be honest, I haven't seen a Squirrel Nut Zipper in many years, but my distant memory is it had a more interesting flavor than Mary Janes (which I like as well), so Squirrel Nut Zipper.

I believe I posted this one before, but keeping with the theme: Valomilk or Mallo Cups? (I have a strong opinion on this one.)

N.B. regarding the caramel / butterscotch question above, I love both but lean toward butterscotch. Also, doesn't it seem like butterscotch is slipping in popularity? I see less and less butterscotch-flavored this or that or the stores. Maybe it's due for a revival? So a bonus "this or that:"

Collard and Bowser or Werthers butterscotch?

Mallo Cup. I have fond memories of them. Valomilk was an exotic import in my childhood days.

As far as butterscotch is concerned, I like Werthers, but much prefer the stuff that I make myself.

City Chicken or Meat Loaf?

Collard and Bowser.

Basil Fawlty or Archie Leach (John Cleese characters)?
