I think that computer graphics have put a lot of artists out of work.

There will always be a place for real art. The kind created on paper or canvas with actual paint and the artist's hands.
I like photoshop and the things I can do with it, but it is only another tool to me and will never replace what I can create with my own two hands.

I think you can make art in PhotoShop, but it requires a lot more skill than just using a few filters. Anyone who uses the software on a regular basis can tell the difference between something that took 5 seconds and something that required skill and time, not to mention imagination. ;)

Amen. One of my family's oldest friends is a former Navy and Presidential photographer who's been an art photographer for many years now. In his 60s he took up Photoshop and now produces incredibly intricate and subtle works of artistic photomanipulation. He says (he says, anyway :)) that he doesn't know how he does it; he's just playing by eye.

yes....:(

There will be nothing to compare to the intricate art of the pencil. Nothing will compare. Like digital compared to film. No matter what, they'll always be something missing. But digital has given those unable to create with their hands, create with their mind. Nothing wrong with that, but there is when they put the real artists out of business.

And believe it or not, this was originally a photograph I took.

If what those traditional artists were able to produce was able to be supplanted in the marketplace, it isn't the Photoshoppers' fault.

Buggy whips and barrel makers don't get to blame or denigrate car manufacturers and plastic factories. What they produced was just no longer needed/wanted.

Artists can still make all the art they want, no point complaining if folks won't buy it anymore. If it turns out to be an error, the market will put 'em back to work.

That said, analog art, like analog music, still appeals more to my untrained senses.

Though some of the digital stuff I've seen I had to be told wasn't done by hand.

It's okay. lol I just found it funny and facinating. We all have our thoughts on art created with an artists hands and ones created with their minds. No doubt computer "art" has a place, but it was BUILT on the real thing. No matter what, whatever was created on a computer began in an artists hands before it hit the screen, the computer screen that is.

One thing that is good about photoshop and software related. It takes what once had to be sent to a service or company to be created, (that is to look good), for instance, flyers, postcards, greeting cards, etc, have now gone into the hands of the home and gives a nonartist the ablility to creat something that would have cost to do. Text included. This is a good thing. It also is a bad thing for the businesses that originally built up these services. Who knows when we will be able to create our very own billboards. lol
Let's hope that doesn't happen. I rather not see a giant "This is my house, get
the hell away from my yard" billboard out the window, across the street.

And things can and are still created with the hands of the artist. Paint, sketch, photography, film, all things that are now within the range of technology may match those out of range, will forever have a place as long Picasso and Da Vinci are around. :)

The debate has closed. Let's get back to nice conversation. Debating is for politics and those are banned, you know. :)

I want to see some of your photoshop creations! Post em' here!

it could be art. if it was six feet wide and on a gallery wall. sometimes context is everything. whether it would be good art or not is another issue.

we see so many normal things, when we see something unusual we are terrified that it isn't normal. Mr. Brown, are there others of your unusual appearance or are you the last of the shop-hicans?
