Thinning the Collection

I will be thinning out my hats - ones that don't fit me or that i just don't wear very much. No collector, I. I only want to keep what i wear. No need to worry about shipping costs; I will send them over in one shipment to one recipient and they will then mail them to the buyers for me (don't worry secret shipping friend, i have some dollars hanging around here that i can't use and will come across in the shipment as your commission).

So, shipping will be actual cost within the US, and a share of the shipping cost to get them to the US. Shouldn't be too much as British shipping costs are quite reasonable.

I will post them here soon. Some very nice rare ones in there. Now to decide which ones i can bear to rid myself of.

There will be a 7 3/8 - French by Moretton. But someone has first dibs on it and i won't know until it's in the US if it'll he'll want it or not. Wait and see on that one. It is a beauty.

Other than that, there will be:

Black Mossant 7 1/4

19-teens or 20s White/Cream Borsalino size 7 1/8

Blue Royal Stetson size 6 7/8

Black 1920s Stetson size 6 7/8

And a light grey/brown Stetson Whippet if someone offers me enough money to part with it. It's marked 7, but fits like a 7 1/8 - too big for me.

PLEASE DO NOT PM ME UNTIL I UPLOAD PICTURES. I NEED TO CLEAN OUT MY INBOX.

7 1/8 Borsalino. Here's is the original post that i made about it. There are some issues: There is some damage to the ribbon at the front. Never bothered me at all. Several moth pits, none go right through the felt. Whip-stitched sweatband needs reattaching. I would say this is a piece for the collector. I've stopped wearing her, though she's still serviceable if you treat her gently. We came to the conclusion in the original thread that it was 19-teens or 1920s. Note the old sweatband style. Offers entertained until this time Saturday in the region of $75-100.

(This one will have to ship separately due to it's fragility.)

Some sort of cork around the very front of the sweatband:

And here's the stickers. $10 back in the day. numbers are 12591 and 17/35. The two words appear to be aloe and Nera.

Is that a photo of your parents in the background? They look very happy together.
You must know Sir George and Lady Laura, 2nd Earl and Baroness Kurtz.
Sadly Sir George had to relinquish the title when he choked on a scone during a tea break at the second test match against Mesopotamia, and a CAT scan revealed no brainwave function. :( lol

5 1/2 Mossant

Size 5 1/2 PUNTI (7 1/4 US) black Mossant Freres french fedora. Age unknown. Very very very soft felt. Lightweight even with the liner. Brim is 2 14/16" and crown creased like i have it is 4 /2" at the sides.

Mossant1.jpg

Asymmetrically attached brim edge binding ribbon. Wide ribbon on the underside, thin on the upper.

Mossant2.jpg

Quite a bit of moth trailing, mostly on the underside of the brim but some on the upper brim and a little on the crown. The kind of trailing that wouldn't bother me at all, but have quite a high threshold for these things.

Size 6 Brosson

As i said, someone has first dibs on this one, and i won't know if it'll be available until it gets to the US. So, here are pics of it just so you can register interest and i'll get back to you when i know if it'll be available.

It's made by Brosson, another French brand, and again is black. It's size 6 PUNTI (7 3/8 US). I cannot find any damage. The oval measures 8 x 6 1/2". Brim = 2 3/4" raw edge. Crown ~ 5 to 5 1/2". No liner, never had one. Weighs 3.3 Oz (93 gram). Ribbon is 1 3/4". This one strikes me as 1930s, but that's just a guess.

Too Rabbinical on me!

People keep coming up to me and asking me complex ethical questions, to marry them, circumcise their babies and so on...;)
