Thanks... one that long might be too heavy to wear though! ;)

I love the look of the Barnstormer, and that one looks like a great fit on you. With summer looming, it probably won't get much wear for a while, but it's not like the break-in won't take years anyway. Actually, does a FQHH jacket EVER get completely broken-in?

My Long Half Belt is in the same brown, and after a year-and-a-half it's showing some great grain and distressing -- much more so than my black Highwayman. (Distressing, not grain.) It still has a L-O-N-G way to go, however.

You can always take comfort in the fact that (unless by some miracle another person is actually wearing an Aero, although I've never seen that happen), you'll always have the baddest jacket in the room.

With the exchange rate where it is, I long to order another Aero, but I'm afraid if I did I might end up getting buried in it. Alas, most people don't seem to have the appreciation for these works of art like us jacket nuts -- although I guess that's for the best. Let 'em have their mall jackets!

I know this pic is floating around in other threads, but here it is again in this thread. The hat is an Art Fawcett VS, designed to replicate the Stetson Whippet.

Barnstormer query

Hi all,

Unlike most Barnstormer queries (including my previous ones), I actually have the jacket.

I've finally been able to break it out for the brisk weather we've been having of late. I noticed that the back of the jacket seems to have quite a bit of extra leather, if I wear it sans belt, it looks as if I'm wearing a jacket a size or two too large.

Have any of the other Barnstormer wearers noticed this? If I somehow manage to slim down in the future, I fear that it may look huge on me! ;)

It probably will. Lots of leather there. If it's really worn in (and that can take too many years) it may well hang more appropriately. Then again, give us a photo of it now so we can have a better sense of it.

It is...:)

Obviously a well- worn and well-loved jacket.

If I were to do it again, I might consider the shaved FQHH, as this is one heavy beast, but then again, it is a lifetime's investment (and more!).

My New Aero (but not leather) Barnstormer

So it finally arrived today...:)

I've been wanting a practical jacket (like the Barbour International I have) that I can wear all year round including rain (which we currently have plenty of) that doesn't weigh a ton.

On top of this, I wanted it to be:
  • Water repellent
  • Warm enough for the UK weather
  • 3/4 length

So I decided to get my own waxed cotton material (ex-Barbour) along with the wool lining & horn buttons, and asked Aero (via Amanda) to make me a Barnstormer with the following specs:

  • Buttoned sleeves
  • G-1 like collar with mid-brown mouton
  • One piece back
  • Snap on front pockets
  • One internal pocket
  • OD thread (to match the OD waxed cotton)

I have to say Aero has done a great job in following my instructions.

The result is this amazing jacket (quick pictures taken indoors in a cloudy, rainy day):
