Thanks very much Jejupe and dubpynchon... just found an e-bay listing of a size 42 in which the seller posted photos of the measuring tape on the jacket: 25" chest on a 42, so yeah these fit biggish but that's fine with me. dubpynchon, what's the sleeve length on your size 42? That's the main issue for me.

His sleeve measurement won’t help you much as most (if not all) of Aero’s sleeve lengths are custom made according to originals customer’s measurements. In size 42 this could be pretty much anything between 24” and 29”. You should ask the seller how that particular jacket measures!

On side note, Barnstormer is a brilliant coat!

Oh so I can spec whatever length, that's good. Thanks. If I get one I'll buy new.

26 inches measured around the elbow. When I ordered the jacket I didn’t specify the sleeve measurement, just my height, 5 ‘11, so this is probably standard for a 42. I think Aero measure the sleeve straight down from the shoulder to the cuff (I read here somewhere) so it might be best to check with them if you’re asking for a specific sleeve length.

That’s right, Aero measures sleeves from shoulder seam straight down to the middle of the cuff.

Can anyone comment on the fit of Aero Barnstormers? I'm sure they fit "true to size" but that can mean different things to different people. I'm a 42 and I'm wondering if a 42 would be snug or roomy.

Mine is a 40 and I wear 40. It's a winter coat lined with Alpaca and it's roomy enough for layering.

Adding to the Barnstormer thread...

My Barnstormer measurements:
Shoulder 18.5" / P2P 23.5" / Waist 21.5" / Bottom Hem 20.5" / Sleeves 25.75" / Length 29.5" / Weight 5.8 lbs

My measurements given to Aero for this custom order:
Chest 38.5" relaxed, 40" expanded / Belly button 36.5" / Waist 37.5" / Height 6'

Raw Italian Veg Tan Horsehide, not Vicenza. Brown fur collar. Grey Alpaca lining. No mods.

Fit Pics:

<a href="https://ibb.co/VmDjFFm"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/dg6WNNg/barnstormer-fit-front.jpg" alt="barnstormer-fit-front" border="0"></a>
<a href="https://ibb.co/b7kQWS3"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/vDSVw7B/barnstormer-fit-side.jpg" alt="barnstormer-fit-side" border="0"></a>

My quick opinions on the Barnstormer:
1. Barnstormer has very high arm hole. Even with an inch more P2P vs my Northeaster, the Barnstormer feels more restrictive when swinging my arms.
2. Alpaca lining is very thick and luxurious.
3. I specifically asked for a short jacket fit vs a longer coat fit. 20 years ago I would have asked for a longer version, but now everything is trimmer and shorter so I asked for the 30" length.

BTW, The raw natural Veg Tan HH is very thick and somewhat spongy.

Beautiful stormer. Well thought out combo. I really like that. I’d love to see a shot without the belt too!

That’s one hell of a jacket!!
It will be interesting to see that natural HH age. Please update with pics as you give it some years.

Love the jacket, Worf! You wear it well.
And, for my money, the barnstormers that were worn in the old 1980's Biggles movie remain the best I've ever seen. I wish I knew who'd made them ...

The film was made in 86. Both Aero and Eastman were in their early years then. I don't think it looks like either of their designs. If they were new, I'd hazard a guess that they were either Wested or ALC, bUT tbh I think it's most likely they were just random used jackets of roughly the right style; I seem to remember these being among the better designs that were popular in leather in the 70s, still available second hand into the eighties. There's something about the look /vibe of them that makes me suspect this is the case, though I couldn't articulate why I 'see' seventies in them.

I think the belt is a must for the Barnstormer. However, I do dream of a back belted version of the blizzard, aka the child of the mariner and the blizzard.

Google brought me to Joe Mccoy coat and Freewheelers Trackwalker coat. Both are very expensive and arms are too short. Shearling coats also tend to make me look like the Michelin man. Blanket linings makes so much more sense in these coats to me.

I've seen the vintage single breasted shawl collar coat you posted a photo of before. It was awesome.

Why has no one posted in this awesome thread since 2019? That's three years. WTF, people??

Doesn't seem to be a model which is currently 'in fashion'. One of many I've long had my eye on, dreaming of the lottery win so I can do my "three of everything, please" order...
