Things you want but cannot justify buying...

I've definitely hard-wired myself into not wanting to buy anything expensive even though I know I have the money and frankly, I am tired of it, constantly desiring clothes I cannot possibly bring myself to pay for. So, I was just wondering, anyone else feeling that way?

This thread isn't about whether a certain leather jacket or whatever is too expensive. It isn't & I'm pretty sure we all here can afford any jacket we want so that's not the point. I can't think of a single leather jacket I couldn't buy several times over but I'm annoyed with the nagging feeling that it'd be an immensely stupid thing to do - Even though I will happily drop same amount of money for several cheap(er) jackets!

Anyway, I'm genuinely curious about how others feel about it but I mainly want to see what pieces y'all occasionally look at but simply can't bring yourself to buy.

And I'm not talking about grails or anything like that, no; Just something you hate wanting so badly! It can be whatever, no matter how stupid.

Gabbard the owner of Kreosote in my opinion is the best North American maker. Stuff is outrageous but all the highest quality materials and similar to Thedi he does lots of coats and special dyes. And does it almost all of it by hand just by himself. Expensive? Yes. Amazing? Also yes.

im pretty bad about this. there are alot of things id love but cant justify buying. id like a new dually, but cant justify 100k for 5000 miles a year. im trying to talk the wife into an old pete or kw to pull the toy hauler. i want some new riding boots but my old super rainforests are still like new. its also tougher to justify with the price of oil doing what it was the last few years the oilfield contractors are still locked in on low pricing from the recessions. id love to crack 200, but it wont be this year, and likely not next year either.

At the moment, nothing. Instead I have more of a "why did I buy this stupid thing?" feeling when I pre-order something. Then when it finally gets delivered I remember why

Lol okay, well obviously, a car or a house isn't a bad investment. Pricey car isn't a particularly good one but I bet we've all heard at least once "yOu CoUlD'vE BoUgHt A cAr FoR tHaT kInDa mOnEy!!1" once forced to admit how much we paid for whatever jacket.

For most people, buying expensive clothes is nearly a sin and I hate it that it often shapes my reality concerning the things I purchase.

I feel proud having bought and installed a new AC unit while I feel guilty buying a jacket tho honestly, the AC makes me less happy.

Also, @ton312 and @MrProper I honestly wouldn't be able to tell if you're just shaving your head or not but whatever's going on up there, I'd have literally zero issues with it and that's coming from someone whose hairline is somehow better now then at 25.

For me, the one brand of jacket that always catches my eyes in photos is RMC. Every time I see one posted I say wow, that jacket is nice, and sure enough once the person mentions what it is, I go, yeah RMC again. There's a certain glow to it, kind of like a well conditioned Cal. I got really close to buying one new several months back but I found myself saying $3k for a jacket, wtf. 3 years ago I was totally happy with a $200 Andrew Marc or All Saints. It's not so much that I couldn't afford it, although it is quite a stretch, it's more about me seeing it as really super gluttonous, especially with a closet full of jackets that don't get all the wears they deserve.

I think I may have found one used at a price I can justify in my head, but it still will be the most I've spent for any jacket or any piece of clothing really. And I fear it may make me think about my whole collection and how many is too many and maybe just focus on a handful of quality pieces that will get worn a ton and cement my style for the next however many years.

The stuff that's unattainable because of price or availability, I try not to spend too much time thinking about it.

I guess on a more serious note expensive bourbon is something I have a difficult time justifying. Don't get me wrong I like it and I can taste the difference between an $80 bottle and a $20 bottle but a combination of me drinking it too fast and the quadruple price point makes it a difficult buy. So I just stick to the Old Forester orange label.

A nice scotch I can tend to justify a bit better.

Same to a degree. I don’t like 90% of JDs not my thing. But I really love the Sinatra select. They have two versions one is 200 and one is 400. Never bought the 400 and never will. It’s an even more premium version of something I know love. But if I’m spending 400 I want it to last. But I like it so I’ll drink it all in a week or two and nothing left to show. Once every several months I’ll treat myself to the 200 dollar bottle but I feel bad about that.

Shape is everything and she got it literally perfect.
Cowboy boots are interesting because they range from the ugliest boots ever to the most beautiful footwear ever made. Most are really meh, actually and I remember when I saw a photo of some band, the guitarist was wearing what I thought was the nicest pair of boots ever but when I looked into getting a pair of generic black cowboy boots, thinking it's all I need to do to emulate the look, I quickly realized that most major brands produce a downright ugly boot. It's an art & when done right, nothing else compares.
