Having both of my parents around...

I think of my folks at different times of the day all of the time.
It's been 2 years but seems like yesterday.

There is sadness that they are no longer with me.
Yet I feel blessed that they were with me for the longest time.

Coworkers would tell me how blessed I was to have both parents.
I smiled but didn't quite take in the thought.
Perhaps part of the reason was my "blocking" it out and not
wanting to
dwell on the future without them.

I don't live in the past, but also I don't
want to forget it.
On the occasions that I think of my folks, I remember
the sound
of their voices, the good times and that makes
my heart
smile.

Bob, I’m happy for you. Please give them my regards!

Well stated good Sir! I think most people who had/have a good relationship with their parents would agree.

For a brief period in time I had two sets of good parents--my own, and my wife's. We never once experienced any of the stereotypical "in-law" problems that a lot of couples have to deal with, and I'm convinced this was because both sets of parents were of the same generation--Dad and Dad-in-law were born in 1913, Mom was born in 1915, and Mom-in-law was born in 1920. Different backgrounds, but they were all raised with similar experiences, beliefs, faiths, work ethics, and such, so they had very similar mindsets and opinions and talking with her parents was often like talking with my own. Sadly, Mom-in-law died only five years after my wife and I were married, and Dad died just under a year later. But Mom married Dad-in-law five months later, so for me and my wife that made the family dynamic even tighter.

By the way, I use the term "in-law" only to differentiate between the two sets of parents. My wife's parents never treated me like an "in-law", and I reciprocated in kind; from day one they were "Dad" and "Ma" to me, and I love them even though they're no longer here. So, yeah, fond memories that make me smile.
