I'm afraid that that is just onr of the dreaded blue label Columbia records of the late 'teens or early 'twenties. Though generally well recorded, they oftrn have truly awful surfaces.

The Royal Blue records of 1932-35 are truly beautiful objects. In addition they are exceptionally well recorded, they have perfect surfaces, almost no surface noise, these laminated pressings wear exceptionally well, the music which they bear is generally superb, and they are scarce if not rare, for they were marketed at the nadir of the talking machine industry during the depths of the Depression.

Thanks for a very interesting informative post with regards to Royal Blue records.

I must confess I wouldn’t know a blue from a red other than the color label.

Someone on the forum mentioned “Royal Columbia Blue”.
I recall my grandmother having those disks as a young kid.
It brought a smile and pleasant memories of long ago.

It must be wonderful to listen to these sounds in it’s original form.

This and George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" were better remembered before they were overused in movies and on television for comedic effect. It has gotten better in recent years, but for quite a while there you'd hear the opening piano or guitar riff and think, "Ugh, this again???"

Having said that, I don't eat croissants often and I'm drinking more tea than coffee lately LOL....but

So true and, unfortunately, so true about way too many great songs that have been "done" to death. I find that, now, I enjoy the lesser known songs from groups and artists - there's a lot of great material out there that never become hits.

On my way back from a morning meeting, I walked by the Polo shop at Bloomingdales and saw this handsome fella all dressed up in the window. If that doesn't make you smile, well I don't know what to say. I love his feet; although, I think a sharper crease in his trousers would have helped his pants drape better when they hit the fur on top of his feet .
