Thigh Allowance.

I'd like to hear everyone's experience with vintage suits, but specifically regarding thigh allowance.

This, i would say, is the vintage ideal. Tight into the waist and billowing out through the thighs with substantial pleats.

I have a whole bunch of vintage suits. A number of them are very tight through the thighs/butt. I have very large muscular thighs and butt compared to the rest of my body (all those years playing rugby and soccer have come back to haunt me). 29" waist with 22" thighs. I find that when the trousers waist is right, the thigh allowance is sometimes too little for comfort. I can wear them, but they're tight. No tighter than the standard modern suit trouser, but tight enough to be not vintage ideal for me. These suits tend to date from the middle 30s. Fabric restrictions led to less fully-cut thighs?

Tell me about your vintage trouser thigh allowance!

Thank God BB isn't around any more. This would be right up his alley to start arguements.

I'd like to hear about this too, I have a 33" waist and 25" thighs from martial arts. It gives me a devil of a time finding decent dress pants.

I am the same, I have large thighs. One of the reasons I love my vintage trousers, is they fit nice in the waist and have a nice wide cut on the thigh so fit really nicely, where as modern trousers I often have to go up a waist size to get a nice fit on the thigh!

Glad to know i'm not alone. I must say that this is only a problem in a small subset of my vintage suits (maybe only 4 out of the 30). And the ones that have the problem are from the middle 30s. This is strange to me since the 30s are known for their billowy thigh allowance . . .
