I'd like to hear everyone's experience with vintage suits, but specifically regarding thigh allowance.
This, i would say, is the vintage ideal. Tight into the waist and billowing out through the thighs with substantial pleats.
I have a whole bunch of vintage suits. A number of them are very tight through the thighs/butt. I have very large muscular thighs and butt compared to the rest of my body (all those years playing rugby and soccer have come back to haunt me). 29" waist with 22" thighs. I find that when the trousers waist is right, the thigh allowance is sometimes too little for comfort. I can wear them, but they're tight. No tighter than the standard modern suit trouser, but tight enough to be not vintage ideal for me. These suits tend to date from the middle 30s. Fabric restrictions led to less fully-cut thighs?
Tell me about your vintage trouser thigh allowance!
Thank God BB isn't around any more. This would be right up his alley to start arguements.
