It's a pity the traditional full-enclosure phone booths have gone out of style -- even if people don't use the payphones inside, they'd be fine for people to stand in to talk on their cells at theatres, restaurants, and other places where such conversations annoy other patrons. Time to bring them back.

The Jonathan Club (a town club in Los Angeles, est. 1895) has a rule: cell phones cannot be used anywhere in the club except inside the club building's old indoor phone booths.

Why Sir, that's a fine rule. It gets my vote

Good policy. I'd like that for privacy - frankly, I'm less bothered by overhearing other people's telephone conversations than I am by the notion of them overhearing mine.

As far as dress codes in airports and on planes are concerned, when one is being herded like cattle into a cattle car, one can't be too fussy about what other people are wearing. I'm happy if they've simply had a bath.

Unfortunately, many municipal libraries don't have rules about people reeking.
