A bit too hot for leather but I finally bit the bullet and bought a grail jacket. Over the last two years, I've purchased several jackets in my search for a cafe racer (pre-owned Aero CR & BR and a new Schott 530 among others) but none were exactly what I was looking for. The Vanson Comet was close but not perfect.
It's all come together nicely with the RMC Buco J-100 in teacore shinki. I'm awe stricken. I can now understand the love for Shinki HH. Sticker shock is strong with this one but the honeymoon phase quickly replaces it. Standard & Strange tracked down a 46 for me from Japan and I had it in two weeks! I figured I'd be waiting until fall, so big thanks to Neil and the team over there.
It's longer than my other jackets (which I like). I never felt comfortable in the Aero CR which hit right at the belt line. It looked OK but didn't feel right to me. I considered the RMC for a long while and while I spent a few bucks buying and selling, it helped me understand what I liked and didn't like in terms of fit and features.
In the end, I'm happy as a pig in $hit! This forum was indispensable and so full of knowledge. The only nit I have to pick is the slightly boxy shoulders which isn't uncommon in Japanese jackets however, after just a couple of days, they are settling down and molding to me. I'm sure it will be fine once broken in.
I'm getting plenty of eye rolling from my wife and kids for wearing it in the house while it's 75°F outside but there is an ear to ear smile on me nonetheless .
