Recently, almost all. I know he's doing his own thing but at a certain point, most Thedi jackets began to resemble typical euro-designs, the kind of stuff you'd see by D&G, Gucci, etc. who are known to often dab into heritage style. There's nothing wrong with that, of course, as Thedi's at least not making the same old repro of the same old thing over and over again but that camo hair jacket, that's exactly something D&G would do.

I completely agree with that.
To me Thedi has great construction and hides, but the designs in the last two years have started to flirt a lot with what i would call "euro trash" or "football player chique". Interrestingly enough, i heard recently that his biggest market is Germany, coincidence?

I think his traditional designs like the "Escape from NY" or the "Campus style" are great, but the more modern ones are too fashiony for me.

He is still exploring as far as I can see, he is one of the rare makers we have no idea what his style will be in a couple of years. Looks at some of his past models

And that is only under his Cafe Racer page. What I love about him is that he has no issue trying things, and going in different directions. Curious to see where he goes next

Are armored biking jackets something required by the EU/UK? I only see them over there. But, then again, here in Illinois it's not even mandated to wear a helmet... just eyeglasses.

No the legal requirement only call for helmets. Anything more is purely to the discretion of the rider

It is just up to the rider. I see all sorts on the road, but then again, there is nothing wrong in wanting to avoid injury is there?

It is another topic entirely but I’ve never understood people who care about heavy leather on their bikes while wearing sneakers and no helmet/open helmet.

I’d prefer to not have my head open like a melon if I crash.

Listen..I've ridden a Harley since 1970 and do it the way I want to do it. Evidently you've 'missed' that this thread is drifting away from an enjoyable conversation about Thedi style jackets into another boring ' I know best' safety bulletin. Seems it never fails....and it sure gets old....

Sorry HD, I misunderstood. I thought I'd missed some prior discussion about helmets, as you said "again".

Of course people can wear or not wear whatever riding gear their local regulations and their own mental risk assessments determine, and I certainly wouldn't want to suggest otherwise (nor derail a thread unnecessarily) nor suggest that I know best about anything.

I'm just pretty glad I was wearing one that time, that's all.

Nobody is telling anybody what to wear here. Only thing to know is that the helmet is compulsory in Europe, that's all.

No need to look down on people wanting to wear more protection and no need to get preachy either

To each their own but I have never understood the guy in a tank top and shorts, flip flops and his big momma on the back of a crotch rocket (dressed the same), lane splitting at 100 plus mph down the Dan Ryan expressway. Makes me cringe and say a prayer for them.

I'm more worried when cycling doing 50 kph on a road bike with nothing but lycra between me and the road. Doing 50 kph in traffic on a motorcycle with leather and an open face helmet makes me feel pretty darn safe in comparison.

If people just put down those cell phones in cars, riding a motorcycle would not be so dangerous these days.

Eating shit on a bicycle is not fun at all. Been there, done that a few times and don't want to do it again but that is the risk you take doing things you love.

Back to Thedi! I heard they are making deer skin cycling shorts now.

When I started this thread, it was to discuss the three Thedi jackets that I had purchased, none of which I would consider a design purpose-built for riding.

The three that I own are all very nice, and of them the one I call "triangle man" (MTC-12799) is perhaps the closest to a MC jacket, and I think it would be reasonable to wear it on a ride, but I wouldn't consider it proper motorcycle gear. The collar doesn't snap down, and is wide enough that it would flap around in the wind at speed. There's no vents and no armor pockets. And the sleeves have cinch straps rather than zippers. It's built from a thick hide (specially requested) that would probably do fine to protect me from road rash, but I would be so sad if it were used that way, I'd much rather destroy a purpose-built jacket that costs 1/4-1/3 as much if it came to that.

It's well off-topic to discuss what motorcycle riders should or shouldn't wear. It's reasonable to discuss whether Thedi MC-inspired designs are actually appropriate and functional as MC jackets. But I'd really prefer to see this topic stick to Thedi designs, and whether they're for motorcycles or not is not really germane.
