Thedi Fit advice, finally getting the ball rolling

I really started to love his designs, honestly when I came I was conflicted because I only wanted repros but being that I have a Repro J100 I’m waiting for, what better way to have something in a similar style but very different.

From what I read he asks for very little in regards to measurements in comparison to other makers, from reading over the past few days trying to gather information I did find a couple instances where people were unsatisfied with the fit (3 out of countless, I think I’m in good hands).
He Honestly seems like a true master of clothing, someone with a feel for it. Like an old school tailor would be.
His jackets seem to fit close without highlighting the wearers faults.

The question I want to know is basically what advice anyone that ordered directly through Thedi can give me in regards to fit?
Should I tell him I might fluctuate 10 lbs?

I intend to keep this jacket, it’s a lot of money and I’m not just going to sell it off because I have many hanging in the closet.
I am going to wear the hell out of it.

Note: I tried to go through Thuston but they couldn’t tell me that the jacket will be complete by fall because of supply chain issues and I respect the honesty, my jacket decision is based on getting it this by a certain time in fall so if it wasn’t Thedi I would just have settled on another but when I contacted Thedi, he had no problem guaranteeing me a time frame, I explicitly told him that I’m not picky on the leather, can he cowhide, horsehide etc and I don’t need anything else that isn’t in stock. He said no problem and quoted me a price for black horsehide, I’m going to go with no washing/waxing process for mine, though I do wonder if that is his secret magic for making these fit so naturally.

Are you sure you want to go this conservative? Thedi does some really cool variations,

and you already have a j100 style on the books.
I’m loving the mandarin style collar right now and especially my wife which likes no other collar. For me, when it comes to big purchases, it’s easier when my wife likes what I choose, a compromise.
She doesn’t see value in leather goods like I do, though she has some designer purses but then still buys clothes at H&M and on Shein even though she makes a great income as a Nurse Practitioner. Budget Conscience not a bad thing.

I feel blessed to even able to purchase a jacket this expensive considering the state of the world when the average person most likely buys jackets less than $100.

I will surely get another style down the road, but every jacket I choose can’t cost thousands if I want to retire young, I see posts where people are talking about $100 T-shirt’s and $400 jeans and $300 flannels, idk if they are millionaires but I don’t see how you can sustain that unless you are a surgeon or something. Young people too!

so I will keep an eye out for cool vintage finds and this Thedi jacket will surely give me a great foundation for a future Five Star Leather purchase which I can be more daring in the styles, and an amazing value for the money.

Theodoros will most likely not let you dictate any measurement other than sleeve length and body length. He figures out the rest based on your body measurements (and pics of you wearing a t-shirt).

I'm not sure what you expect him to do with that information. A leather jacket has one fit only and it won't expand or shrink with the wearer's fluctuating weight.

This is why it makes sense to have more than one jacket :) One t-shirt only fit and one for layering.

I think 5* will only disappoint when you have a Thedi on your coatrack.

I consider Thedi jackets great value. They use the nicest leathers available and make a custom pattern for each customer. Construction quality is among the best in the business. Also note how detailed their jackets are:

@Damon141

I don't want to put you off in any way, because Thedi is indeed one of the best there is, BUT, if timeline is an absolute deal maker / breaker for you, you should think twice what you want - do you want Thedi's jacket or just some jacket with absolutely guaranteed delivery time.

My experience is, that Theodoros runs a smallish operation and sometimes he is not able to keep the timeline he has promised with best of intentions. That's just the way it is with small businesses.

That said, if I were you, I'd take the risk, because his jackets are well worth the wait. You're not buying the jacket just for next autumn, but hopefully for the rest of your life, right?

I’m not understanding. I spoke to him and he said it’s no problem to deliver before his summer break. I’d like to think he wouldn’t make those kind of promises because he seems genuine.

It’s not like I’m asking for anything specific, I told him he could use any black leather he has in stock, any zippers he sees fit, and line it with what he chooses.

You guys seem to confuse long wait periods with perfection but he can easily turn out multiple jackets per day with his staff as he told me. It’s when you start asking for crazy requests like a rare iguana skin jacket from the Galápagos Islands. Remember the guy that ordered that nice white deerskin Himel jacket only took 5 months but chances are if he would have just ordered Shinki he might have received it quicker, but he wanted something special because he probably has a large collection but for me any simple leather will suffice as I know it’s all quality.

I explained to him casually with no pressure that I needed a jacket before fall and that if he can’t just let me know and I would surely order from him when I had more time and that either way I would buy a jacket, just this particular purchase I want for this season.

Please let me know from any other experiences if I am making a mistake.

Well, Thurston says they can't guarantee you a Thedi jacket on given time due to supply chain problems and their supply chain for Thedi jackets is Thedi. Didn't they basically say you the same thing as me?

Thedi is the best, Theodoros is a jacket genius and I have ordered many jackets from him in the past, but none of those were completed on the schedule he promised me when ordering. That won't stop me from ordering more from him when I feel the urge again. I think you shouldn't hurry an artist.

Maybe you're right that my orders have been more challenging and taken more time, or maybe it's just because I didn't put my foot down and demand a 100% certain delivery time. Anyway I wanted to give you a fair warning, so that you don't get terribly disappointed if something unexpected happens with the promised delivery time.

That said, I hope you order a jacket from him. You won't regret it, I am sure.

From what I see he makes pretty tight fitting CR’s, so much do that members have sold them quickly because they didn’t fit so I’ll let him know that I fluctuate up 10 lbs so he gives me a tailored but not skin tight fit. You

If I picked up a Five Star it would be a style that I wouldn’t wear that much like a trucker. So being that I wouldn’t wear it much I wouldn’t want to spend more than a couple hundred

You guys misunderstand posts or something.
I’m not sure why someone would think I’m “rushing an artist”. No pressure was given, I promise.

This is a purchase like any other, and I asked him if he could deliver by a certain time because I have a trip I’m taking in October and also said if he couldn’t do it then I would just order after I get back. He said he would have it done before his summer holidays which I think is August.

No pressure was on him so unless he is hard up for business which I doubt then I would hope he would just tell me if it wasn’t possible and we would put something together In the future.

That’s why I even told him use what he’s has in stock: leather, zippers, liners, etc none of that matters.
So as much as I would like to have outstanding orders with every single maker and sit back and wait, I’ll just never need that many jackets

I will trust you guys if the general conscious here is that I may be disappointed with the quoted delivery. I will reconsider as you guys are the experts and have dealt with him and have the experience.

My budget isn’t unlimited as I have a family and life to worry about so I could always buy something guaranteed and next year after the holidays and expenses that surround them, I could place a Thedi order at that time if I still want more jackets.
It’s just I can’t just spend unlimited money on myself, if anyone has a family I’m sure you can understand that.

I could get this Pinecrest off the rack which I had measurements that could work. It’s literally the first off the rack jacket with sleeves and chest I can make work. Basically the same measurements as the FiveStar jacket I have but 2cm extra on the sleeves and 4cm extra on the hem (which I need)

I am sorry if you feel offended in any way. I just tried to help you with my experience.

I'll try to to help you with your original question about the fit. if you fluctuate by 10 lbs and want to fit in the jacket at your heaviest, you should obviously have it made to those "heavier" measurements. Another solution would be to give him the measurement of a similar jacket that fits you the way you prefer. That is of course if you have such a jacket.

Thedi's standard designs are quite slim for upper arms, shoulders and chest, if you lift or for some other reason you have bulk in this area, you might want to tell him, and maybe give him extra measurements around arms etc.

I’m not offended. I’m just trying to understand if everyone is warning me that he might take longer than his given word

OR

Is it that people think that they are doing him a service by telling me to be patient thinking they are helping him in some way but in retrospect it has the opposite effect and causes a prospective customer to worry about his given word.

I’m just saying this is a business like any other and the owner should be capable of giving a delivery date, I mean what would the world be if this wasn’t true?
Imagine having an flower delivery for a wedding and then they are not able to come through and someone responded “well they are an artist”
If the world functioned like that in every area that people are dependent on, then we would be in pretty bad shape.

So no I’m not offended, I don’t get offended with things like this, I just want the truth if they think I should trust the quoted timeframe or should I just wait till I have more time to wait.

I don't think you have to make a science out of it. ;-)
There are obviously enough examples where the announced delivery time was not met. Completely non-judgemental and factual information. It is now up to the reader to draw his conclusions.
My conclusion would be that there is a certain risk that I do not have the jacket on the desired date. Do I still want to take the risk, yes or no?

You basically have to make a science out it around here because one says this, one says that, I read both that some and I’m just trying to go by the man’s word, besides I know how individual people can customize their jackets, by choosing special leathers and pattern changes are so by need just choosing a standard model I was hoping a quoted time could be trusted.

So basically when I gather from this and every other maker is that each one of them is completely unreliable, basically you can trust nobody

I know in my line of work, I own a Commercial Laundry Company deal with Laundry services for hospitality hotels and healthcare workers, if I have a quoted delivery I can put a cushion on my self to wear it’s either early or on time, if I feel like anything could get in the way of that I would simply quote a longer time

He delivered each and everyone of my orders within three months (even though he usually quotes 60 days). Two or three months, or even four... I couldn't care less. As long as I'm happy with the final product. In that sense Theodoros always over delivered.

Edit : typo
