Ralph Fiennes is back in the 30s again, this time for James Ivory in The White Countess. It's set in Shanghai in the mid thirties, so you'd expect it would sort of interesting, and yet the trailer looks about as interesting as drying paint. Still, there may be more to it than the tasteful music and fades would suggest.

Man, you're right! Just saw the trailer! Doesn't look too promising. Story seems vaguely familiar... is it some sort of remake?

I read a review of this film and to reassure your initial observation it wasn't good. I think most movies these days are remakes. I am often surprised by how often I turn on TCM, and think, "didn't that movie just come out?"

On the move again...
Just saw the trailer, hard to judge from just the trailer though. It might be an interesting film, then again, it might be as boring as the English Patient. Time will tell I guess.

Cheers!
