The visor fedora

Had to update about my garden/yard straw. I have put it through the paces this summer, it hasnt been the only straw I wore to 'work' in. But it has held up very well and still looks good [at least to me].
I like this straw but the visor straw does not appeal to me at all. And yes this hat was made by the Amish.
Here is a new photo.

Despite the apparent unpopularity of the visored straw around here, I thought I'd have a look and see if you could still get them anywhere. I found that this place seems to sell them. It says they're made by Dorfman, which I suppose isn't so surprising.

I've never understood transparent visors. Sort of defeats the purpose of having a brim, which is to keep the sun out of your eyes.

What is the purpose anyway? Why were they originally created? Was someone concerned about not being able to see what's above him without looking up?

I thought my invisibility powers only worked over on Club Obi Wan...

...As for this visor hat, I've never really understood visors - the sun still gets through, but its just green? What's the point? lol

Personally, I'd prefer to just have the brim at the front.

lol

I'm wondering if they were originally designed as an alternative to the visors bankers used to wear. Maybe rural corn exchanges and stuff people preferred to wear hats like this rather than normal cashier visors - looks friendlier, more in keeping, and I guess also still kinda serves as a hat when you need it to.

Probably a alternative for cardgames and pool halls too. If I was a hustler, I might wear one. I'm actually starting to quite like them.

I know who else would have liked them - my grandfather. He had problems with his eyes, and wore a visor in the house. A hat like this might have been good for him in the garden, at least on the more overcast days.

If that store sold internationally I'd probably get one just for that sake alone.

Zounds! You talk about a co-op hat?!!! Crackin' me up! :D

Created by Amish, styled in Australia, made in China, for Jewish hatmakers, sold by an Irishman named Muldoon, who lives in Eau Claire, and (if I bought one) worn by a transplanted Ozarks hill-billy in L.A.??? :D

...Now a nice set of arm garters, braces, and a "sprung" wing collar ought to just about complete the look down at the snooker & recreation hall?! :)

Did you give it a FL twist - a flick of the wrist?
