I prefer real vintage fur, I have faux fur...it looks like someone skinned their teddy-bear then tried to wear it as a coat lol I have 3 full fur coats 2 being rabbit and one being beaver fur, I also have a mink stole, all of them vintage ofcourse eventhough there are allot of animal activests and hippie people out where I live, I still prouldly wear my fur any chance I get because I love it lol!
Oh and on a random note, I missed everyone!!! not having a computer for a while there was terriable!!!!!

I think that I prefer to have vintage fur over faux fur. I feel as if that with wearing vintage I am helping to prolong the use of the animal's hide and not let it go to waste. I also am not a fan of what kind of chemicals are used to create faux fur. They are bad for the environment and not as earth friendly as real fur.
I do find that when I am wearing vintage fur many people do not realize it came from a real animal. If they ask if it is real I tend to tell them it is and most people are okay with that. My friend thought it was gross that I was wearing a coat with a fur collar but she couldn't stop petting it haha.

I wore my vintage fur wrap on Monday night at a New Year's party. I got compliments all night long but I was approached by an animal activist, who I have since become friends with.

Bumpity bump. Any ladies with fur collars care to clue me in how they attach them to their sweaters and coats? My husband bought me a beautiful rabbit fur collar and I can tell that at one time, there may have been hooks or something attached but they are long gone. The collar would look wonderful with several cardis I own as well as my wool coat but I don't really want to be sewing hooks and eyes to everything when I wouldn't be wearing the collar exclusively whenever I wore those items.

You could sew a few snaps on to the back, that way you can remove the collar when need be.

I have a couple of vintage furs. How does one have their furs cleaned? And are there any at home cleaning tips.

Since I take public transportation and live in a very urban area. I am scared to ware my vintage furs all the time, I did wear my fur stole once, I was so nervous.

I was lucky enough to have inherited a 1940's Mink fur that was hardly ever worn. So far I have worn it once...I'm just so scared of something ruining it.

I do wear vintage fur ... I have a couple of beautiful fox and mink stoles and muffs from vintage and thrift shops, flea markets, or inherited. I wouldn't buy new fur, but I'm fine with recycling fur that is probably older than I am. I wear my favourite chocolate brown fox stole and matching muff on a daily basis in winter and get mostly friendly comments if any. I rarely wear the stoles with heads, tails and feet cause those earn a lot of deadly stares. Which I find rather silly, cause dead animal is dead animal, period. But then I know people who'll eat steak but not chicken because the latter looks too much like carcass ...

I just bought a great vintage fox stole on ebay, the complete with head, tail and paws version. There must be several ways to wear this: it has a chain and hook, a clip underneath the head and a diagonal fabric loop at breast height (see pictures).

I get that you can clip it to a belt or collar in front and have the tail hang down your back. I get the chain to wear it diagonally over one shoulder and fasten the chain under the bust, or to wear it around the neck with head and tail hanging down the front.

But what is that diagonal fabric loop for? if I thread the tail through it the head hangs too low I think. Any ideas? And are there any other ways to wear it that I missed?

I agree with Maisie. The only fur I will ever buy or ware is vintage.

Does anyone know any at home cleaning methods for fur?

If the fur is greasy, say round the collar, you can rub Fuller's Earth in then brush it out. It is basically a powder that absorbs any grease.

I believe warmed bran is also recommended. I will check my old books and see what they say.
