apparently ( I run a search with a few keywords), defendants at Nuremberg trial were issued with special sunglasses .

So the sunglasses in the picture are probably one of those since the picture appears to depict the trial.

There is an auction site describing these and they are showing and " American Polaroid U.S. 1945" stamped pair of sunglasses

".....
Sunglasses for the defendants in the Nuremberg Trial

Sun / safety glasses for defendants of the Nuremberg Trial in 1945

Continuous glasses made of gray-tinted plastic with reinforced edges on the top and nose bridge as well as metal temples.
The view through the glasses against daylight / photo lamps is grayish
In an olive-colored oilcloth case, embossed with "American Polaroid USA 1945"......

Since the courtroom in the Nuremberg trial was very brightly lit with photo lamps for the filming, the accused were given these dark sunglasses. ....."

".....Recently one of our readers in the US contacted us with a photo of a pair of sunglasses that were in a box in his grandfather’s garage. Back in 1945, his grandfather was stationed in Germany for the infamous Nuremberg trials, during which he got his hands on a pair of sunglasses allegedly worn by a high ranking Nazi. Many may be confused as to why sunglasses would be worn inside a courtroom, so we’re here to explain just why sunglasses were worn at the Nuremberg trials and provide the answer to one of the lesser-known Nuremberg Trials facts.

...
In the aftermath of the horror of the Second World War, the Nuremberg trials were held. These trials were aimed at bringing war criminals from the Nazi regime to justice. Nuremberg was the former propaganda center of the Third Reich and the birthplace of the infamous, anti-semitic Nuremberg Laws. It was also home to the infamous Nuremberg rally and as such was symbolically chosen as the location for the trials....."

macabre though it may have been, MANY of these sunglasses (cheaply made I think) were kept and are these days offered at auction all claiming being RARE (but there are really many!)

They cannot possibly have been all used by defendants at Nuremberg! The sunglasses existed in their own right and were used by the American troops and weren't especially made for the trial, so the greatest majority ( of these NOT rare items) must have been used elsewhere

They also exist as Bachmann bros.

Many thanks. What a futuristic design for that time I have to say.
