The Homburg is a real surprise. I've only seen them with bound edges.

I wonder if they were experimenting with the transition from stiff Homburg to softer Fedora?

I have Homburgs with softer felt. In general they are stiffer / thicker but that isn't always the case.

Also Homburgs didn't originally have bound edges. They also had very tall tapered crowns. Here is a very old one (19th Century?) from I beleive Möckel Hutfabrik the originators of the style.

This thread has a bunch of good info on Homburgs.

Sorry for the thread drift.

Trilby
Fine fur felt hat with 1/4" grossgrain band and cloth sweatband
Brim: 2"

I love the unpinched look of this Trilby.

How do you folks think this would look scaled up to Open Road dimensions? Imagine it with a 2-1/2" or so brim instead of 2" and a correspondingly taller crown. Could a hat that big work with a moderate center dent, no pinch and narrow ribbon?

Especially in grey instead of brown. Hmmmm.

Yep... it would work fine.

Dad (1923 - 1999) and Granddad (1903 - 1993) both wore no-pinch stingy-brimmed hats with wide, almost 2-inch hatbands.

That's the only kind of hats they ever owned and wore. While Dad turned the front of the brim down for a rakish look, Grand left the brim up all 'round for a dressier appearance.

They're both long deceased now, but I wound up with all their hats, black and charcoal Dobbs and Churchills, the "newest" one probably from the '50s, at the latest.

They're in perfect condition, and I'd surely wear them myself, but alas, they're all way too big for me, and long ovals, at that.

To each his own, but, personally, I prefer the pinch. I mean, how else does a Southern gentleman open the door for a lady with one hand while using the other to raise his hat and say, "Howdy, ma'am"?

I have a beautiful Lee Edgelee with only a center dent and no pinch. I love it.

Now that's what I'm talking about. Beautiful indeed. Great, clean lines and plenty of hat for a big ol' head like mine. I now have a model for what I'm looking for in a hat, thanks Gallatin.

Nice mood lighting, what color is the hat...sort of a dove grey?

I had this hat, a Stylepark Templeform "Aristo" briefly, it was an eBay win that was mis-listed as my size, but in reality was 2 sizes too large. [Seller was clueless about hats  ]

I really loved the color of that hat, but there was no way I could have worn it. :eusa_doh:

I know it might be odd to reply to a nearly two year old post, but I just stumbled onto this picture after searching on Templeform. I have the same hat -- a Templeform Aristo, same color, the only difference is that mine lacks a feather. It belonged to my grandfather and my grandmother gave it to me after he died about 15 years ago. It's my special occasion hat. I only break it out a couple times a year but I absolutely love and cherish it and if my house was on fire, I would run back in to retrieve it.

And I wear it unpinched.

The '20 - '30s unpinched fedoras are very cool ... taller crown ... like Cagney wore
I replicated one with one of my western conversions, but I could never pull off the no-pinch ... still, the tall crown to narrow brim ratio look is very cool when it's done right.

The '60s short crown and narrow brim with no pinch ... I still can't get used to. Since I was a kid, I have always suspected some bean counter in the home office was trying to save a few pennies on felt.

Just sayin' ...

Forgot I had this picture:

That's me on the right in the Templeform. My son (he was about a week old at the time. He's now four) was borrowing my Dobbs fedora.

I liked the unpinched look so much I didn't want to go through the summer without it....

One of Panama Bob's hats blocked into a diamond by Tomnperris.

This hat also does not have the side pinch.

Charles Knox Hatters, NY, NY no dents Angora Finish I'm tempted to replace the band with a black ribbon, but it's not my size anyway.
