The Harris Tweed Shop supplies traditional tweed suits. They have four styles: a 3-piece Traditional; a 3-piece Tailored; a 2-piece; and a 2-piece Shooting Suit.

There's a very wide range of Harris, tartan and Breanish tweeds, and the Breanish are fantastic -

I just finished these pure wool tweed trousers. After wearing them for a day, I've decided that this material would really be smashing for a suit:

This tweed has a herringbone pattern and even the color has something very vintage looking about it.

Here's the fly:

And the rear pocket flaps (you can see the herringbone pattern in this shot):

Kind regards,
Magnoli

One problem - it smells funky. I ran it through my Fabric Refresher 2x and that reduced the scent a bit. I'm going to take it to the dry cleaners this evening. I hope they can do something about the odor.

Barry

The dry cleaners helped a bit and so did "Drycleaners Secret." However, the suit still has too much odor for my taste. It seemed to get much better (almost entirely better) and now the musty smell seems to be fighting back. I read somewhere that "professional wet cleaning" can help to reduce odors much more effectively than dry cleaning.

Does anyone have experience with wet cleaning to remove odors? I'm hoping that the suit isn't totally impregnated with the odor.

Thanks,

Barry

I will give that a shot this afternoon. The Febreeze treatment didn't seem to last very long.

Thanks guys,

Those waist pockets on the jacket look interesting, but the boots?!!!

Just a standard pair of shooting boots.

However, the jacket should be made with an action back to facilitate shooting and an extra button approximately five inches above pocket button. This allows one to keep the pocket open for easy access to cartridges whilst shooting. All my shooting jackets also have a flat button underneath the right revere so that it can be buttoned up the neck and therefore avoid rain running down one's neck. Not pleasant when one is freezing at a peg anyway. The inside of the collar should therefore be of the same material as the rest of the suit.

As for the breeks! Where does one start? Skinny cut and neither a pair of plus twos or fours. Just awful.

Marks out of ten? Three. Time to visit the Head Master's study.

Greetings Barry and all, never fear , bookster is here, I've only just found time to join this wonderful site, and am more than disappointed to discover a less than satisfied customer, I wish you had contacted me about the problem, our service always extends to after sales support.
Please return the suit , I will have it cleaned and RE PROOFED by our specialist. He is an ex royal /savile row dry cleaner, his standards are the highest, he re proofs certain items for us, ( re oils the cloth ) it makes the cloth feel like new, there is an odour from this process, that will go with airing, but I am confident the mustiness you refer to will be gone, and the cloth will be good for another 20 years or more, at which point I can arrange a repeat performance!. We explain in our trading terms that we only clean a proportion of our inventory, at any one time, we have many hundreds of items (not all on ebay), so routine cleaning of each item is impossible for us.
We will not charge for the cleaning or shipping, I look forward to hearing from you
Warmest Regards, Peter ( Lord Bookster of Bladen, Tweedster Extraordinaire, rake, wag and dandy)

I think Barry mentioned in another thread that a "professional wetcleaning" solved his odor problem. That said, it's gratifying to find an eBay seller so conscientious and willing to provide satisfactory service. Welcome to the Fedora Lounge!

What a warm welcome, I only wish I had made time to join sooner, but we do spend a ridiculous amount of time 'looking after the store' on the pc's, I hope we can make positive and useful contributions over time.
Whilst tweed is our main speciality and passion, our interests are extremely wide. For example we were purveyors of vintage leather in the 70's, importing lots of amazing leather jackets from the USA , and stunning 40's / 50's German and Dutch ones from Europe at the same time. We also had a phase that included 19th C gold embroidered Chinese tunics and 30's beaded dresses and other womens clothing. We still seek fine womens traditional English clothing and also enjoy finding unusual items ( most recently, what appears to be an over the head thick leather English Bowmans top, obviously not genuine medieval, but it looks so right and today I found a genuine USA leather pioneers jacket that looks like its straight out of Davy Crockett)
I just mention these other items to give you some idea of the breadth of our obsession, I don't mean to go off topic!
Just let me know if I can help with any info/research to do with English clothing, if I don't know the answer I may know somebody who does, Peter

Absolutely, I like my shooting jackets to have action backs as there is little worse than having your swing interupted by insufficient 'give' at the shoulders.

I too like my shooting overcoats to have tabs and buttons above the waist pockets for easy access to cartridges. Bellows pockets are useful too.

Hello to Peter (Bookster1uk), we have dne business in the past.

Peter,

I probably should have contacted you before posting so I apologize. I had it cleaned and I am 100% happy now. I would be happy to purchase from you again. The fabric of the suit was and still is in perfect condition. I was thrilled to find this suit.. I'll post a photo of myself wearing it this Saturday. I haven't picked up the trousers yet - I had them taken up a bit.

Thanks again,

Barry

Greetings Mr Micawber, this is quite some gentlemans club!

Barry, Thank you for your response, suits such as yours are very hard to find even here, where they were made,in good condition, it is so satisfying when they pass on to such appreciative new owners as yourself, we just had a testamonial for another fine suit just delivered to your side of the pond, we even managed to include a set of real staghorn buttons that the new owner yearned for.
He is so pleased with it ,and precious about it, that rather than having the trousers let out by half an inch, he's decided to lose a little weight as he does not like the idea of trusting a tailor with it!
I'm glad you resolved the issue, we feel it is our duty to help if we can. I would greatly appreciate a pic, it will take pride of place here at tweed headquarters, Peter

My camera is still being repaired - I'm borrowing another just in case it doesn't come back within a couple of weeks. Here's the suit.
