The Tile House as the locals call it, is a Moorish folly in Bay Shore, N.Y., built by Rafael Guastavino Jr., who with his father, Rafael Guastavino Sr., developed the tile vaulting system used in Grand Central Terminal’s Oyster Bar, the Whispering Gallery outside it, and other iconic spaces, like the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Carnegie Hall. Guastavino built this house when he was working on Grand Central.

Wow. That is a spectacular home with a unique to NY design, not many Western/Southern styled homes here.

I think the tile houses give a great look. Tiles make the house unique from others. I tell the taste of choice. I also like the tiled house but the house I am living in is not tiled one. Planning to have a little change in the future.

I don't think tile would cost any more than brick. I would like to know how it stands up to the weather? Do they often have to replace tiles that have cracked or fallen off? How about pointing the joints?

Green Tile in Cincinnati, OH

Here's one in Cincinnati you may like... green tile exterior. It's in the city in our gaslight district about two blocks from my house. One of my friends just sold it after over a year on the market for $306K. It needed new systems and interior work; but good bones. Back in the 20's the basement was a speakeasy. Here's the listing synopsis: Iconic Roth Mansion in North Avondale's gaslight district. Early 20th C. with Arts & Crafts elements. Original details include glass dome, conservatory, 6 FPs, and woodwork. Perfect for entertaining. Featured in multiple publications.

Absolutely amazing! The terracotta color of the tile makes all the difference, it gives the house a Mediterranean style!

Wow! just wow!!! amazing!
