Early Stratoliner Medalist with 2 ½” wide brim and 5 ½” open crown. Size is 7 ⅛. This felt was a joy to shape. The hat is very lightweight and in incredible condition other than some moth damage that is mostly all behind the ribbon.

Any insight into this vintage Stratoliner I recently picked up? I love the color scheme. Sadly the felt quality doesn’t seem very nice (stiff, hard to shape) and the brim at 2 1/4 is a bit small for my taste. But the colors are really nice.

Mid 1960s to 1970s is the best I can say.

Good evening, Gents! I would like to submit my application for membership in this exclusive club. I’ve had this Strat for sometime now and I don’t believe I have ever posted it before. I’m estimating it’s from the 50’s based on certain criteria I’ve come across in this thread. However, I will yield to those who are far more knowledgeable in dating these vintage Strats.

I can tell you this felt is very soft and pliable. It’s a joy to shape. One of my most prized hats in my modest collection. As you can see, this hat has the wind trolley. Most I have seen do not. Not sure if this can be a clue in dating it. It has stars in the liner and the sweat. Oil silk liner tip is present. Any help or confirmation is appreciated.

A fine looking Strat is fabulous condition! You have it shaped so nicely. I would think a reasonable estimate is late 1940s to early 1950s.

Thank you, Joe! I was very surprised and fortunate to get one in such great condition. I previously had it in a center dent with front pinches but I changed it up last night to give it a variation of a c-crown lowered in the rear. I think I like it much better now. Looks more like a classic Strat now. I'm happy with it and thank you for chiming in. I felt like it could possibly be late 40's. I'll take it!

Congrats - wear it in good health sir. Your Stratoliner is an excellent example of 50's hats. The color hue is dynamite, IMO.

Thanks to the information and knowledge of folks on this forum I kept looking and found this early Stratoliner. What a great hat. Now I understand what makes these sought after. Cheers everyone for the tips! View attachment 549939

I FINALLY got one (that fits, I have had a few....that did not...I have a silver belly mid 50's right now in 7 1/4). Late 40's very early 50's. Red/white blocking tag, orange re-order tag. Lovely dark steel grey with blue tones.....the ribbon was matching at one time....I LOVE what the years have done to it! A little over 2 5/8" brim (almost 2 3/4")and 5 1/2" crown. Liner is a yellow gold, with the entire tip being a darker shade. Felt is pretty awesome!!!! Very, Very, Soft!!:)
