I have yet to see this movie mentioned around here. With the wealth of hats, suits etc... it just would seem like a natural ( oops thats another movie)

The Sting has been discussed before....and we also covered the fact regarding the reemergence of ragtime came from the soundtrack of this movie.

I was sitting in a movie theater in Columbus, Ohio in 1973 when this movie premiered in that city, and once I heard the music, I HAD to find a copy of the sheet music. Once a book of Scott Joplin was found, I sat at a piano for 6 hours straight trying to convince my left hand that it COULD do 'stride' rhythm. Not an easy thing to convince, considering it had spent it's entire keyboard playing career playing Bach and Buxtehude at a pipe organ. (grins):)

I FINALLY received my very own copy of the movie on DVD for Christmas from my youngest daughter. I have NO idea why it took me so long to get a copy....but it did.

The Sting is in my top 5 favorite movie list.

Regards! Michaelson

We were in High School, my friends and I went to see it in Bayshore on Long Island. We went in 2 cars and, all four tires and rims were stolen off of my friends Firbird as it sat in the theater parking lot that rainy afternoon

What's that brim called????

In the back seat shot, Redford's lid has that side-snap to it, as does DeNiro's (Capone) in The Untouchables.

I recently watched a few segments of Ken Burns' Jazz series from PBS - saw a couple of hepcats with that side-snap.

It seems a rare sight, but to my thinking, it makes a strong individualistic statement about the wearer.

Is anyone wearing this style of snap nowadays???[huh]

I am. When my Akubra Federation arrived I gave it that sort of snap to the brim, where it curves up on the side and rear and down towards the front of the other side. It just seems to work better on my face/head than a regular straight-down-in-front snap.

Interesting, Vlad!

I tried a couple of mine with a bit of side snap, but a strong brim with a regular block seems to produce a "wave" in it with that configuration. The softer hats take it OK - has that "mysterious intrigue" sort of look....

My akubra came very stiff, so putting any sort of snap on it is a bit of a challenge. I have to "refresh" it every so often with steam. Hopefully after it is more worn in it will take to a good shape without using steam.
