Thanks Anthony... as you know from experience, those pre-war Stetsons are special and specialer still when they survive virtually unworn. The owner apparently died in 2004 (unusual name helped to find the obituary). He was a WWII veteran and then spent his working life as an accountant. Clearly he kept his stuff in order, as did his family after him.

The owner imprint is exceptional. I don't know if I have seen such an elaborate and elegant personalization service before. He must have been quite young when he purchased this hat - or perhaps (more likely) it was purchased for him as a gift during his college years. To make a custom debossing die would not have been a trivial expense... especially for a five dollar hat.

Knowing the history of the hat and it's previous owner really helps make that hat a treasure. Priceless.

Hey Pat, the Playboys on Parade thread is a bit more exhaustive.

These would have been sold open crown and shaped to the wearer's preference.

Stetson Playboy Colors.
I response to a FB post concerning pre-1960s felt colors for Stetson Playboy hat. I compiled, and shared on FB Playboy ads from 1947-1960 that listed available colors. Eric @Short Balding Guy took the time to go through the ads I post and compile this list of colors. I'm sure that there were probably more colors available, but this is a good start.

Caribou, Willow, Quail, Arabian, Chestnut, Star Grey, Chocolate, Havana, Briar, Silver Belly, Sky Gray, Alpine, Grey, Flazen, Cork, Seal, Hemp, Bergreen, Star Blue, Nut gray, Sycamore, Flaxon, Hazel, almond and brownstone.

Additions: (50's advertisments) Aspen, Platinum Gray, Pewter, Sand Tan, Briar Brown, Taupe, Lake Blue, Peacock, Brazil, and Biscuit tan.
