If you like Hemingway you may like Raymond Carver, and if you like Carver you may like Flannery O’Conner, both of whom you may be familiar with and both in the canon of American short fiction. As you’re open to stuff outside of American short story writing, you may like Anton Chekhov’s short fiction which I’m sure influenced Hemingway, Carver, and O’Conner.
My current favorite short story writer is the Irish writer, William Trevor. Fantastic stuff, highly recommmended.
