Hello Ladies and Gents

Just acquired this lid recently, my first vintage piece in over ten years...

The felt is thin, very supple and has a suede like finish. It is more of a charcoal grey than anything near as brown as in the photo. It has a 2" ribbon. The label as well as the band is marked "National Hatters, Louisville, Ky." it appears to be new old stock or at least very mint to my eye. It has an edge that is folded under (Cavanaugh maybe?) It initially had a bit of taper, side to side, but I decreased the depth of the center dent and got much more parallel sides (photos to follow) oh, and the best part... only $10.50 + shipping... likely what the hat cost new, some 40-50 yrs. ago.
So, anyone know this brand? It's history? Thanks

... No Sir, only packaged & posted in a Stetson box

I found it on that auction site... honestly, I couldn't belive that I won it... I was one of seven bids, so i guess it was just my day ('bout time )
it was a 7 3/8 & fit like a glove... Sometimes luck is with you, eh?
sorta makes up for the stetson I scored for only $17.00 and paypal didn't change my shipping address in a timely fashion... now my grey Stetson is just out there in the ether somewhere... or WORSE, on someone else's head!

It looks very nice. I would like to see it on. Hats on a table are lifeless. They need to be worn to animate them, to see how the brim responds to the tension of the head and how the crown proportions work with the face.

That's among the least descriptive hat headlines I've seen (the very worst description isn't known, since no one will ever find it). Most people's search terms obviously didn't locate it, as evidenced by the few bids and low price in one of the more expensive size categories.

There are still bargains to be had out there, but they won't be found under rocks labeled "vintage fedora" or "Stetson hat."

The seller naively listed the hat under this category: "Clothing, Shoes & Accessories > Men's Accessories > Hats > Top Hats." Huh? Top hats?

And finally, the seller never used the words "vintage" or even "fedora" in the auction's title or description ... even though the hat clearly is a fedora, and vintage fedoras are among the best-selling hats on eBay.


Again, congratulations Rick! You stumbled across a buyer's dream!

I couldn’t be more pleased w/ the deal, but does anyone think this would benefit from a reblock ? and I would still like to discover some more info regarding the manufacturer and such... just to satisfy my idle curiosity... oh, and Mr. Michaelson... let's don't forget that South Central Tennessee is, coincidently enough, also but a short mailing trip from east Tennessee
