I still have empty milk bottles left over from the early 50's. I keep garden gloves and small yard tools in the milk box by the back door. Our milkman's name was Aaron. I could talk him into leaving chocolate milk if my mama wasn't home:)

The museum I work at has a painting that Norman Rockwell did for the Saturday Evening Post.

During the tours we have, its used as a classic example of Rockwell's ability to "get the point across" in one image. However, with school tours, a lot of times we have to explain the scene in the painting a bit more because as a lot of younger people have no experience with the milkman, they don't get story that the painting is depicting.

Horse and Cart

I read a story in an old issue of Reminisce magazine (I used to work in the doctor's office and one had subscription for the geriatric patients. I used to swipe it and read it on my breaks!) It was about a milkman in Urbana, IL, that didn't like the idea of milk trucks, so he used his horse and cart until the 60's or so, past the time that was still "in fashion". I only took notice because I was living in Urbana at the time, but it is a cool story.
