IIRC, the term "record player" originated with RCA Victor in 1934. The R-93 Duo Jr., a speakerless electric turntable that played thru radios, was referred to not as a phonograph, but as a Record Player. (See label below from an RCA radio.)

If you want to get that particular, yes you are right. But I was talking in modern terms, not as if I am living in the 1940's, which I wish I was.
