Acting on a hot tip from (who else?) @Bob Hufford, this little beauty hit my front porch last Friday.

Just at the edge of my comfort zone, the 2 1/4" raw edge brim, coupled with a 5 1/2"+ crown gives this 50s hat a look from an earlier era. Gorgeous chocolate color and the patented Kitten Finish round it out.

I'm assuming this hat to be a Resistol since Harry Rolnick was a personal friend & supporter of LBJ's, & Johnson's fondness for Resistol. Not his usual Silver Belly Wide Country style, this must be a fedora in a Cattleman crease. Because a darker color was required, perhaps? Yr unknown.

Making note of new info uncovered on the "Lyndon B." It is a true OR clone with 2-3/4 brim & binding. I have one fuzzy pic where it's generally the same style of ribbon but can't tell if it's identical or perhaps 3-cord, etc. Friend of the owner says it's a brown sweat with Lyndon B. Johnson, XXX stamped in the front & the usual Rsisitol XXX on side. No Byer - Rolnick nomenclature. I can't post pic here due to the anonymity of the 3 individuals pictured, but this pic was taken in 1980. The friend of the owner said the hats weren't necessarily common but were available at least in TX; that it may have been around the time of Johnson's death in 1973, definitely post Whitehouse era; & everyone called them the Lyndon B.

The owner is an extensive Western collector but bought the hat new. He may have a President Johnson hat also. I've asked the friend to see about pics that could be posted. If anyone can add to this info, please do. DD @Desert dog could this have been during the time you worked Western Wear, & if so could you have seen one in CA?

Hi all,

First post and of course I'm looking for some advice on the approx. age of my Resistol. I'm 98.99% sure it's a 3x San Antonio. 2.5" brim and 4.5" crown. Scored it over the Thanksgiving weekend. From everything I have read on here, it's pre '68 due to the Byer-Rolnick reference. Unfortunately, there's no tag or anything else on the inside of the sweatband, just the stampings.

Any opinions? Thanks, y'all!

Earlier 1960s is my estimate. Nice one!
