I fished this one out of the 'bay last week, complete with box:
(Some people have hinted that there might have been some sniping interference going on. So not true! And now Mario has his own gray Resistol!)

It's in lovely shape:

And, of course, it fits!

5" uncreased crown, 2 1/2" bound brim, 1 7/8" sweat, 1" ribbon. Soft, pliable felt. This is the light gray fedora I've been looking for!

Maam, that is a great looking hat and such a find with all the accoutrements with it. Resistols of this type seem to be the forgotten few on the forum! Glad to see you got such a fine one.

Resistol Pincher--late 50s/early '60s?

Just posted this on the New Hats thread, but thought I ought to add it to the Resistol Roundup, as well:

Found at the monthly Long Beach (CA) Antique Fair for $30: It's a Resistol Jet, probably from the late '50s or early '60s (I'm guessing the latter). Deep brown, fur felt, snap brim with an underwelt and a pork-pie style that has been pinched at the front--thus the hat's name, from the tag under the liner. Surprisingly, it was a 7 3/8 and fit like a charm. Aside from a couple of minor spots on the ribbon and a little wear on the sweatband, it's in beautiful shape. I don't wear many short-brimmed hats (this doesn't feel stingy, so I'm hesitating to call it that), but I'm liking the vibe of this one.

The details:
2" brim
4 1/2" crown

The pics:

My first Resistol--I'm really enjoying it. Might have to have Art Fawcett make me a copy in another color...

This is one of my resistol hats that I bought new years ago, wore it every day in all types of weather, I remember commng in the house after doing chores many times and dumping the snow off my hat before I came in and hung it up.
When we moved off of the farm this hat stayed hanging by the woood stove for several years, I finaly went back picked her up.

Finally found an older Resistol Western(+ under $25.00). The felt is about the same weight and feel as my 1950's Stetson 3X with embroidered liner.

The great artwork on those vintage boxes is in itself almost worth the price of admission. From a time when art departments were crankin' it out by hand. Really cool.

I just got a Resistol Cattleman in the mail today. It's chocolate brown. It's a sweet hat. Only problem is it's a 7 3/8 and the seller told me it was 7 1/8. I'm super bummed to say the least. I've been looking for a nice brown Cattleman in my size for a while now. Back to looking.

Resistol Outlook

This is the hat in my avatar -- a Resistol Outlook, with a 2-inch brim, in spruce. It arrived with initials engraved on the sweatband, but still open-crowned and apparently unworn, in its box (instructions included).

I tend to prefer wider brims, but I keep coming back to the distinctive color and excellent felt on this number.
