This is one of the first jackets I picked up a few years ago. I loved the color, it was from The Real McCoy's, and (not knowing much about jacket sizing) I hoped it might fit since it was labelled as a size 38 and I considered myself a size 40. Unfortunately, between the high arm holes and extra abdominal fat, I didn't fit into it. Fast forward a few years, and it's still a touch tight in the shoulders, but I can at least wear it now - and have already gotten to wear it a few times this year on some unseasonably warm days.
It's a Russet colored A-2 from The Real McCoy's, contract No. W535 AC-23380. It's based a a Rough Wear contract, which was awarded on 26th December 1941 and was for 12,000 jackets.
Dimensions: Size 38
Chest p2p 20.5"
shoulders 17.25" across back
Sleeve 21.75" leather 2.75" knit cuff = 24.5" total sleeve length
Rear length 20.5" leather + 3" waist knit = 23.5"
I'm curious what you all think of the finishing on the leather. I can see some great grain through it, but there's an almost plasticky layer on the top, which in more used areas (elbows, behind the armpits, upper chest and shoulders, collar) seems to be cracking - I think the shoulder by the epaulet shows it best. Should I be concerned about this? Or is this expected for this more thick surface pigment? I tossed some Pecard leather dressing on those spots in case it was the leather drying out...
Thoughts on fit? I think the length is where I'd prefer, but around the waist, it's still quite slender. I'll try to get a few outdoor pics next time I can. I think it looks particularly nice with a pair of Viberg vegetable tanned hh boots that I have.
