I am not a number, I am a free man!Beautiful hat and looks great on. Those balloons remind me of The Prisoner. Any chance you are Number 6?

Tossing this in here as it might help with dating hats. 1948 Penney's Marathon.

Very nice Marathon, Brent. I don’t see too many in this whippet styling. Which is kind of surprising. If I were to take a guess.. it might be this style was at the upper end of Penneys offerings and they did not sell as many in that range as other higher end stores would have. Very clean hat.Medium weight felt that is easily dry creased. Wider Whippet style brim binding and 2 ½” brim. The open crown is about 5 ⅜ inches. I’d guess this is a mid to late 1950s hat, but that’s just a guess. The size is 7 US.

Absolutely fantastic vintage western Bob. Love these vintage ones that you manage to find and give a proper new lease on life. This one is a gem for sure!1910s/1920s Marathon western. 6-3/4" crown, 4" brim. Not sure if the stars reflect a quality level (there is a similarly aged 2-star in this thread) or something else.

I came across a penny's Marathon hat, I believe it to be a Gaucho. Could you give me any information on it? I'll attach some pics, thanks in advance!HI Josh
Chas is right, the Marathon was made for Penny's by the Lee hat Co. in Danbury. It was meant to be a rugged every day type of hat and filled the bill nicely. Not alot of innovating styling, just a plain old good hat!!
