When did they quit making Marathons?

I've just come into possession of a Penney's Marathon and am wondering if there's any way to put a date on it. Anyone know when they stopped making them?

Great looking hat. I have about decided I need one. This is the style I have been looking for. To my untrained eye the Marathon looks a lot like the Open Road with a teardrop bash which looks a lot like the Stratoliner (except for brim width) as well as a lot of others that I assume were clones. In the early to mid 60's my Grandfather had a carpentry shop in a small town north of Dallas. I remember seeing men come in and out of his shop wearing the thin ribbon hats. I always associated them with blue collar working men as very few of them were in suites. Those hats have stuck in my head ever since.

Here's some shots of my Marathon, I understand it is dated from around the mid 1930's but it is in great condition, it is my first vintage fedora, I bid on a thin ribbon Marathon on OFAS last month but I didn't get it. Though it did go to another member here, so it's in good hands:rolleyes: lol

Here is my Marathon, it just arrived last week. It has nothing to do with the movie or horses for that matter.

It is different!

Two Marathons

I recently purchased a bag 'o hats from Mr. Lucky. I've been working through the lot and doing a fair amount of restoration. Two of the hats were Penney's Marathon bodies with liners and ribbons but no sweatbands. Jimmy Pierce installed generic sweatbands, cleaned, and blocked the hats with open crowns.

Here's the one with the red logo on the liner after hand-creasing. This looks like the grey version of the model posted by Feraud in the previous reply.

I thought this one would look nice with a wider ribbon so I attached this navy blue one over the origibnal ribbon.

The second one has a greenish brown/khaki/olive (?) liner logo and a black ribbon that I do no believe to be original. I'm going to attach an Art Fawcett ribbon (from gtdean48) over the black one. More pictures to follow.
