I missed out on 4 items yesterday due to my step sons b-day party. The whole night I kept thinking about the auctions ( I can't help it!). Any way, IF by some miracle somebody here won any of these, I would be more than happy to pay for a copy.

Holy moly! I thought the people who were paying $40 for a pattern were a little nuts but this one just blows me away. I was just watching this auction to see how much it would go for and you would not believe this.....$135.50 ! For a pattern! What?!

oh and this high bid went in at the last 3 seconds, I think they were using one of those "sniping" services.

Heaven knows I'm not disagreeing with you, but thought I'd offer a different mindset:

Sometimes, when I bid over and over on a rare item and fail to get it, I put in a very high bid to "ensure" that I will get it regardless of its actual value. The time saved from continuously bidding on items I want and not getting + the frustration = value to me, personally.

Again, I'm no expert on the pattern itself, but obviously, it was worth it to that person (and the person who bid next in line) to get this pattern; for whatever reason they wanted it.

Just my .02

Ditto the above two ladies. Schiaparelli patterns always go high. Someday I'll find one hidden away that's affordable... *le sigh* Her designs are some of my favorites.

I highly recommend Esnipe.

No one can see your interest until it's too late for them to bid against you! So it actually helps to keep the prices down.

You can keep the item in your watch list and keep an eye on the price, and if you decide not to snipe it, you just go to Esnipe and delete the bid. You can't do that on Ebay!

I use it all the time now, and hardly ever miss out on an item I want. Only when someone is also bidding extremely high do I lose, in which case it's OK, I don't need to go broke!

I second the Esnipe vote! Set your bid and forget it. I only find out if I lost (as in the above skirt which went about 4 times as much as I was willing to pay) when they send me an email!

Yes that makes sense. I just in my wildest dreams, have never imagined someone paying so much for a pattern.

Slightly :eek:fftopic:

What is with all the shipping padding lately? Since when has buying and item and shipping it become two different transactions. It seems the new median is $10. To ship a magazine!? :rage:

It angers me that sellers seem to think they have to be paid to ship something. Ive had sellers tell me; "I have to make a special trip to the post office. The post office is out of my way. I have to blah blah blah." I dont care what you have to do to mail my package, but I dont have to pay you an extra $4 to mail my package.

I am consistently contacting sellers about their shipping, and just re asking the question "What would it cost to ship here?" I know prices have gone up but come on!

*just rantie today*

Especially when you can arrange with USPS to pick a package up next day for free.

What I hate is when you get charged $10 for priority shipping and you get a tiny little box with $3.40 in postage on it.

:eek:fftopic: But I guess that's a rant for another thread.
