Ah yes the 2012 Olympic games. I target shoot, and am on several forums. One in particular goes crazy every two years because no one watches the shooting sports. I compete which is a blast, but watching other people shoot is like watching paint dry. They also don't like my ideas to make the shooting sports more visual. Come on, think about it combining Trap Shooting and the Ski Jumping, just use Rock Salt instead of lead shot.

Here's a puzzler. Tonight during the run-up to the opening tableaux, NBC flashed a cascade of posters from past Olympics. As far as I could see, once they got to 1928, they went straight to 1948.

I can understand skipping over Berlin 1936. But why skip Los Angeles 1932?
Was it the official poster, which looks like it was painted by some kid who won a contest?

Nowhere near as bad as the Olympic farce. When there's one of those, a small part of town is busy (and there's the odd ruck) for a few hours - not weeks on end, not stupid levels of security, not massive inconvenience to my life, and it's not forced in my face for weeks on end, nor am I constantly told by various idiots in public positions making smug speeches that "the whole country is behind the Games". Then there's the matter of a chunk of my Council Tax being diverted into it. I wouldn't care if it didn't impinge on my life the way it has, but....

We had the Olympic games here exactly a hundred years ago and that's frankly almost too close for comfort. I feel for you Londoners.

My friend who who works in the City said they were told they would be allowed to dress casually for the duration of the games. Unfortunately, "casually" turned out to be in essence "no tie" which she felt did not at all come close to making up for the inconvenience.

It feels like the center of the universe and I feel proud of the old city. The inconveniences of travelling around have been relatively minor so far. Please don't feel sorry for us!

They were here in 1984. It was a little painful, but really fun. And London will likely get lots of money from "crappy" tourists too. I think that these events, while disruptive to an extent, are good. Now, the opening ceremonies are another topic. I had to shut them off after 10 mins. The music was great, but the commentary and other buts were god-awful.
