TRAILER
Starring Jack Lemmon as Felix Ungar and Walter Matthau as Oscar Madison.

"Felix Ungar has just broken up with his wife. Despondant, he goes to kill himself but is saved by his friend Oscar Madison. With nowhere else to go, Felix is urged by Oscar to move in with him, at least for a while. The only problem is that Felix is neat, tidy, and neurotic, whereas Oscar is slovenly and casual"

------------------------------------
This film was on Turner Classic Movies recently, and every time I see it, it just becomes more brilliant. Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon have perfect chemistry between each other, from when Felix moves in, to the moment he drives Oscar crazy. I find their performances funny, realistic, and a great combination of different moods, tones, and facial expressions, which add much to their performance.

The script is well thought out, the story is clear, and is funny through every scene until the end. The only thing I found difficult was Oscar's mood to change from angry to concerned too soon, before Felix left the apartment. The Pigeon sisters were great, their laughs were fun and annoying, and the entire scene between them and Jack Lemmon when Walter Matthau leaves the room was perfect. I haven't found a bad point yet, and am still looking.

What is your opinion on this film?

This has to be one of my favorite comedies ever :eusa_clap
Perfect music score, perfect direction, perfect acting... perfect everything!
Neat and neurotic Felix (JLemmon) force by circumstance to live with a slob like Oscar (WMatthew). Love every second of it!!!!
Truly they don't make them like this any more.

A great film AND a great TV series. That doesn't happen very often.

My favorite line from the movie: "Oscar: Yuo leave little notes on my pillow. 'Oscar, we are out of Corn Flakes. F.U.' ' Oscar, we are out of toliet paper. F.U.' It took me two weeks to figure out F.U. stood for Felix Unger."

That still cracks me up!

I love this film! Every time I watch it, I laugh at the dialogue. The line about the sandwiches has been in my mind since I first saw the film in '68. "I'll take the brown", was genius. Remember the Christmas tree standing in the corner? I reference that image to my wife when it's time to take ours down. Bud and Lou, Dean and Jerry, Stan and Oliver. Add to that list Walter and Jack! A GREAT Odd Couple!!!:eusa_clap

My wife would say I am very much like Oscar but I woud say I am sort of an amalgam of the two. Probably leaning towards Oscar though. :)

Walter Matthau originally wanted to play the Felix charactor.

Oscar:
"You keep leaving little notes all around."
"We're out of corn flakes - F.U."
"It took me two weeks to figure out the F.U. stood for Felix Unger!"

Don't forget that this film as many others were brilliant plays by Simon that did very well on and off Broadway.

In High School we would often go to the library get all of the copies of this or "The Prisoner of Second Avenue" asign parts and do readings of the plays.

The Odd Couple is simply glorious. Don't forget the poker buddies Speed and Vinnie?

"He cuts the crusts off of the little sandwiches!"
