Never been there. The pics still mesmerize me.
I have a bunch of 35mm slides taken there with a Navajo guide in 2008. Not the best way to present this with lighting, glass reflection, etc but this hangs in my home. It's Yi Bi Chi (The Dancing Warriors). It's in a protected area you can't go to without a Navajo guide. It's shot across about a quarter mile of sand dunes. They are very protective of the sand dunes & no one is allowed to walk across them. The dunes are constantly changing with the weather.

Neither have I, but it's on the bucket list. With my ignorance of southwestern geography, I was very disappointed to find out Monument Valley would not be a quick day trip from my brother's place in Phoenix.

Back when I was a film school undergrad, one of my professors was Ford's biographer (well, one of several I suppose) and I definitely absorbed some of his passion for Ford's work.

You will want to spend more than a day there anyway. There are several lodges & a couple of motels in MV, but my favorite place to stay is on the river running thru the canyon of Mexican Water, AZ. And you will want to see Mexican Hat, UT, the switchbacks, etc.

If being "Phoenix adjacent" is a concern, visit Sedona instead. It's only a couple of hours north of Phoenix via I-17, and the landscapes in and around Sedona are similar to those in Monument Valley. Also, if you're sensitive to such things, I found the energy in Sedona to be very calming and relaxing.
